During my round of setting default dates this week (and last week), I came across many date/time proposals where a timezone was used for clarity. This is very nice and probably intended to be helpful, but in most of these cases the usage of it was entirely incorrect.

When you do not add a timezone to your match comment (which is preferred!), it is implied you are proposing in ‘etf2l time’, which is CEST from March 31 to October 27 (i.e. summer time) and CET the other half of the year. We are in CEST currently, and many people are making proposals along the lines of ‘sunday 21.00 cet’, which can be very confusing.

I wrote this post at 13:30 CEST, which is 12:30 BST (British Summer Time), which is 11:30 GMT, which is 14:30 EEST.

tl;dr
March 31 to October 27: CEST (Central/West Europe), BST (UK), IST (Ireland), WEST (Portugal), EEST (Finland, Eastern Europe) (These are summer timezones, so all +1 hour of their winter counterparts)
October 27 to March 31: CET (Central/West Europe), GMT (UK & Ireland), WET (Portugal), EET (Finland, Eastern Europe)
