all deaths now cow-mangled

Last couple of days all deaths on my server have done that floaty black cow-mangled thing. Is there a setting for this? Did a recent update do something weird?
The sound scheme for the original is also kind of messed up at the moment, at least in demos from before the latest update.
Thread title way cooler again than the actual thread.
