I got this screen tearing with my new pc. Read lots of google stuff that says its drivers fault, heard that 12.1 catalyst was stable but tf2 doesn’t run with it, also heard it started to tear for most users after 12.4 update so they recommend to use 12.3 i installed it. Still getting screen tearing.
INFO:
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870, 2GB DDR5 (256 Bit)
i5-3570k
windows 7
catalyst 12.3
and Benq ew2430 60 hz
please help :C
( i want solution without V-Sync)

vertical sync?
Heres a few options to try:
#1 fps_max 130, 120 or 0(try all 3, I use 130)
#2 either use a lower resoultion like 1024×768 to go from 60hz to 75hz on your monitor for more clear picture when fast motion, or use the native resolution of your monitor for less input lag. (See what works best with your monitor, I use native with my 120hz)
#3 Try enter these cmds in the bottom of your fpscfg:
mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 1
mat_forcehardwaresync 1
Otherwise buy a 120/144hz monitor ;)
one of my friends told that it could be wire problem, because he had same thing with same gpu. Sooo i took 3 wires:
HDMI to HDMI
DVI to HDMI
and another HDMI to HDMI
It appears that when i connect monitor to gpu with hdmi wires it doesnt work. it also doesnt work with DVI to HDMI ir HDMI wire is connected to monitor.
So it only works with DVI to monitor and HDMI to GPU. Anyone can explain why it doesnt work with HDMI to HDMI?
What is your reason not to use dvi-dvi?
There is no reason to use hdmi EVER in a gaming setting, unless you are using a tv(hdmi can also max pull 60hz, unless you buy a extremely expensive device to boost it)
Ok nvm, will buy DVI to DVI cuz with hdmi to hdmi i still get tearing :||||||| thanks for answers quad

get a DVI-D (dual link dvi) cable if you can.
Oh god, I have the same issue but I just didn’t know how it’s called. Thank you so much.
Quoted from cufky
you owe me a movie now NaF :X
Oh you
So after long time I got the DVI cable, and still tearing, any more ideas to prevent tearing?:|
whats ur hz?
multiplicate it with 5 and set this number as your fps_max “”
be sure u get at least (hz * 2) fps if u want it to be smooth (rly smooth) and (hz * 1) if u just dont want that fckin shit tearing
but even when u dont get the fps -its still better than using fps_max “120-299” (for 60hz) or “300-599” (for 120hz)

Tf2 Fps capped on 240 fps. But the thing is I have screen tearing EVEN ON MY DESKTOP :C
Monitor BenQ EW2430 60 hz
Without FPS cap i even get 1600 Fps

I had the same problem. I think everyone has it to some degree, even on the desktop. I solved it by getting a 120hz monitor.
