Hello ,

I would like to invest into a pretty decent headset and i was wondering what you guys can request me ? I have already hade the siberia’s and now i’m using the steelseries 7H but the voice quality is “okay” but i’m not satisfied about it.

I would like to aim to the quality that most shoutcasters have such as byte and others have do they run on a very good soundcard is it the headset ?

Thank you

Great thread that really helped me. I still think that my beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro (+ sound card) + Zalman ZM-MIC1 are an awesome combination.

An Asus Xonar sound card is great for surround simulation. Paradoxically, simulated surround is better than real 5.1/7.1 right now. Thus, stereo headphones are all you need. When I enable Dolby Headphone and surround emulation, listening to podcasts is like sitting in the same room with them. This also transfers to games regarding auditory location and immersion overall.

Also, depending on the impedance of your headphones you will need an amp anyway, which you can buy extra or your sound card may have it (my Xonar DGX does).

as said, headphones+ mic is the way to go. The MMX 300 posted above is a DT770 Pro with mic, so you pay 150€ for a mic…. If you just wanna use the mic for TS3 and Mumble, take the Zalman ZM-1, if you wanna do serious LP´s/Casts get a better mic like this http://www.thomann.de/de/audio_technica_atr_3350.htm

for headphones, if you want it bassy, take Selek´s suggestion or the DT770 if you want a closed-back, if you want a analytical sound take AKG K701! DT 880 is also good. the best would be to try out some cans in a hifi-store :)

Separate headphone and mic FTW.

The DT770s are nice, as are the DT880s, depends if you want open/closed back.
Got both and could be convinced to part with one, let me know if you’re interested :)

For a cheap clip on mic that I’ve had no real problems with:
