DVD not working properly

Here’s a riddle for tech savvy people:

The DVD player/recorder in my laptop has been acting weird lately. It can read all kinds of CD’s and DVD’s (for example: the driver disk which came with my laptop and DVD’s containing games), and it can burn DVD normally (so its not a hardware problem). The problem is, it cannot read burned DVD’s. Other laptops and PC’s can read those disks without any problems, but my laptop just freezes when I put any burned DVD in for about a minute or so, and then just shows that the disk is empty. The strange thing is, that my bios can’t boot any Live DVD’s either (so its not a software problem either), even though other PC’s load the same DVD well.

tl;dr: my laptop isn’t reading any burned DVD’s, even though it can read other disks fine. Bios don’t load Live DVD’s.

Some info:
The name of my dvd: hl-dt-st dvdram gt31n
I tried: reinstalling drivers; unistalling the device and restarting my laptop; changing some settings in bios; playing around with registers (there are no lower/upper limits in my register).

Help?

Is the firmware up to date?

I would like to say yes. I wasn’t able to find any new drivers/firmware anywhere though, so I only have ones that windows gave me.

The only thing I can think of problem is in burning software. Tried any alternatives?

Your DVD is getting worn, laser or lens is not aligned properly.

Yep, tried a variety of different softs, forgot to mention this. By the way, like I said, I can burn DVD just fine. The problem is that my laptop can’t read them, but others can. That’s the strange part.

smarT:
Doesn’t sound likely, since, like I mentioned, I can burn and read bought (original games, driver’s, movies, etc) DVD’s just fine. The problem is, my laptop can’t read burnt (“homemade”) DVD’s. Anyways, can I check/fix it somehow without changing my whole device?

Drop your drive into a vat of liquid for 4-93458903 minutes and dry it of using only your hair.

Congrats you on your new drive.
