polling rate

I`ve managed to increase my polling rate several times after re installing widows, but I`ve failed to do it this time. Any idea what I should try? I usually stick to this guide – http://www.ngohq.com/news/15043-how-to-increase-usb-sample-rate-in-windows-vista-7-a.html
Nothing happens, the port just dies and I have to plug my mouse in a different one.
btw, I`m using windows 7 64bit, ms mwo.
Sidey saved my ass with this one. It seems like theres a bit of a difference if you`re using a 64bit operating system. Heres a guide for those 64`ers – http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106653
I know it seems to be just the same, but some of the points differ in their order. This one works.
