Help with a new monitor?

I’ve bought a new monitor, without doing a lot of research, basically.
Feel free to call me a retard but I didn’t realise that my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 or something, 512mb) can’t run 1920×1080. Which is a bit of a problem, because even with a different resolution, TF2 runs on about 60 fps, and thats with Chris’s Max FPS config. I’ve got a better graphics card knocking about the house somewhere, a GT 220 (1GB) would that be able to run 1920×1080? and if not would anyone recommend a different resolution to run on? I don’t really want to send it back.
Thanks for any help, obviously I’ll do more research before I buy something for my PC again :<
sort of had that problem too, i brought a new graphics card (needed an upgrade anyway)
edit: i went for gtx 460 got it cheaper as well

i suggest if you have some money, buy a descent gfx card and benq xl2420T, the only negative thing with benq xl2420t is the price

At the moment I can’t really afford a new graphics card, does anyone know if the GT 220 would be able to run this resolution? I have one of those in my other PC but I’ve not had time to switch them. Its definitely and upgrade on this one, but I’m not sure by how much.
Yeah, GT220 is a lot better than HD4350/4550 but still old and slow, why do you need to go for 1920×1080? try 1280×720?
Yeah sorry, I didn’t make it clear in my first post, but when I tried 1280×720, I was getting 40-50 fps with a maxframes config, wheras I usually get 150+. Do you think a GT220 could run 1280×720 fine?

That you only get 40 fps has nothing to do with the monitor.

I think it does, as with this 17″ monitor on 1024×768, I get far more fps, wheras when I tried to run tf2 on my new 21.5″ monitor, with 1280×720, I got around 40 fps.
I’ve updated my drivers, and now something very odd has happened to my graphics. Its occurring on both my old 17″ monitor, and my new monitor. Does anyone know what this is all about? I’m a bit confused :<

Have you installed new drivers without uninstaling old? Fully uninstall all nvidia drivers and then install new one. I was similar bugs with my old GTS250 after updating without full old driver uninstall.

Oh shit, this is probably the problem… How do I uninstall old drivers? I’m a bit technologically retarded :<
nevermind I’m doing it now

… obviously you get less fps because of the higher resolution, you will get even less fps if you try to run 1920×1080 w/o getting better hardware (CPU, GFX-card)
