Router problem

So a few months ago right after some tf2 update my router started crashing every time I started tf2. It would crash again when I joined a server. Making me go through 2 crashes every time I played tf2. I managed to fix it at the time by de-activating my antivirus software.
Now I bought a new pc but the problem is back, and turning off the antivirus doesn’t fix it this time :(. I consistently crash every time on launching tf2, and on the first server I join. Sometimes also on the 2nd server I join. Having mumble open makes it worse and sometimes makes it go to up to 4 crashes.
After I’ve gone through all the crashes my connection is stable. Does anyone know a solution other than getting a better router?
few things id do:
turning of routers firewall, can be called SPI Firewall
installing dd-wrt or some other decent firmware
making sure its not ur pc thats actually spazing out: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1043281&highlight=Multimedia+Class+Scheduler
last is only for w7 tho :]

Does it always crash on launch or could be related to the Server Browser?
I had the Server Browser flooding my Router and

didnt help, I ultimately bought a new router.
Pretty sure it’s not the server browser. It goes down on launching tf2 sometimes. Sometimes already when opening steam or opening mumble. I guess it’s just the router being too crappy. Strange thing is it doesn’t happen with any of the other 8 pc’s in the house, only this one :(. Albeit they don’t run tf2 or mumble.
Alas, I’m not in a position to buy a new router.
