Hey Guys, any brainboxes here know much about the above? Basically i have a 64gb SSD so im trying to use as little of my gb’s on stuff as possible. Windows 7 64bit has set my pagefile.sys to 8gb automatically as i have 8gb of phyiscal RAM. Do i really need my page file to be this large can i lower my virtual memory useage in the options without causing any issues? Due to me rarely utilizing all of my 8gb of physical ram could it be that my virtual ram is never used (if thats how it works).
Swap/page file is used to store memory that isn’t being used “at the moment” if that makes sense.
Not sure if this still applies nowadays, but in the past it was never a good idea to have a page file on an SSD because of the limited reads/writes (which there will be lots of)..
Anyway, to answer your question.. You won’t need this at all with 8gb of ram.

You can’t disable it totally on Windows (even if you select don’t page, it will). Put it on a drive that isn’t your SSD.
watched some ppl test it on TV years and years ago on w7… disabling it completly worked like charm and performance increased
but keep in mind if there is memory leak and ur out of free ram ur fucked :D
but yeah u can simply put w/e number u want and should work fine, say 2ish gigs would be fine

Cheers guys – Set it to 2gb just to be safe and works fine to me! Also i’ve disabled my desktops ability to hibernate and deleted the hibernate.sys file and freed up another 6gb of space! FYI for anyone else who has small ssd issues. Also i’ve enabled “Trimming” on my SSD now on the advice of someone and it feels even faster now :o.

This utility has most of the SSD tweaks. You might want to turn off system restore or lower the maximum storage it can take up as well.
