Need a new pc for playing BF3
Don’t know what is good value anymore
Have £500 for processor, ram and mobo
You know what to do
Inb4 tf2 is dead I called it like 3 years ago
Intel Core i7 2600k 3.4GHz Socket 1155 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor – £239.34
Asus P8P67 Pro R3 P67 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard – £128.59
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered – £52.34
WD 2TB 3.5″ SATA-III 6GB/s Caviar Green Hard Drive – 64MB Cache – £60.9
Cart total inc vat: £481.17
Obviously it will play BF3, but am I getting silly anywhere for no reason?
I know you’re only looking for cpu mobo and ram but what gpu are you going to put in that, it seems like that is what makes the massive difference. I Upgraded from a 5770 to a 6950 a couple of days ago and went from 30fps at low settings to 80+ at high.
Edit: Also don’t go for that green hard drive, go for a smaller WD Black

you’ll see negligible benefit from an i7 for gaming. just get an i5. no idea on the mobo since i don’t buy intel. get an i5 instead.
if you’re just doing gaming and other similar shit (ie you’re not doing some specialised stuff that actually requires heaps of memory), get 4gb instead. pointless to get 8gb right now unless you’re constantly rendering videos or doing 3d modelling or some shit. hell, i have 4gb, i rarely even approach it, and i do do those things. also, get a wd black instead of that green, green is wd’s low power range.
as for whether it will run bf3 decently, would need to know all components.

Don’t really know much about computers, but what flushy said seems to be the best thing for the money currently.

i5 2500k, 4gb ram, gtx560 ti would be the best option atm, like most of you have said already.
Unless you like wasting money, don’t go for the 2600k. Take the i5-2500k instead if you’re only going to play games with it.
As for RAM, I think 8 GB is a must for Windows 7 and gaming. My PC uses 21% of 8 GB while being idle. 12 GB is a luxury, but not at all crazy if you consider RAM prices are dropping like madness right now. Might as well go for as much RAM as possible.
The motherboard: I myself use the Asus P8Z68-V, but the motherboard flushy suggested will do fine as well. It should have everything you need. If you’re in doubt I suggest you compare the two and look at their specifications.

ROFL. You must run tons of crap in the background then, since for me Windows 7 x86 at idle == 6% of 4GB == ~240MB.
There is no fucking way in hell that any normal setup will idle with 1.7GB of RAM used, that’s complete bullshit. Don’t spout this sort of crap in future please.

Calm down, there’s no reason to get mad. I do have quite some programs running in the background, but it’s not extreme at all. Steam, and a real-time virusscanner take a lot of RAM for instance. If I check Task manager I have 54 processes running when idle. I bet you only have 1 program installed… TF2.
Nevertheless, 8 GB isn’t wasted money. Like I said RAM prices are low as hell, best to buy a lot of RAM, even if it seems too much at first. It might come in handy in the future.

This is flawed logic, since RAM will continue to decrease in expense.

You’d be surprise.

I would certainly be surprised, seeing as how it’s not true.

Changed it up a bit as per your suggestions
Recommend me a good graphics card £200ish or have graphics cards become cheaper than they used to be?
