I need a modem for the wrt54g I’ve had for the past year and never set up, I tried changing settings on my O2 router and on a BT homehub but I can’t do it and I cba wasting any more time on it.
I’ve searched for some modems but only found people moaning about problems with theirs and nothing to recommend me one for this particular router, can anyone just recommend me one that can get my router working so I can stop my housemate raping my connection.
Thanks.
I personally use this with my WRT54GL: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=645
Never had a problem with it. You can telnet into it and get ash, so I have an script on the WRT54GL that allows controlling it from the WRT54GL using telnet (sadly the X4 has no SSH, and lacking a lot of standard commands, although it should in theory be possible to modify the squashfs).
Performance has been good in my experience. The web interface is a bit pants, but I just use it in bridged mode to my WRT54GL, so I never use the X4’s web interface anyway. If you do, I think it has a dumbed-down interface to ipt in there amongst other things.
Either way, I’ve had it for about 1 year (since my old modem died), and I don’t think it has ever crashed on me.
