.wldcrd!

I’ve had very occasional issues, and as Skyride says, I aint surprised. They’re doing backend work.

Only other time has been pingspikes due to downloading during peak hours (now somehow, this never used to happen to me, but their limits have been changed recently, so, not gonna bother ringing em to find out.)

Are you using those wall plug things?

Also if you’re using wifi, don’t even dare complain about your ping.

Does wifi effect ping? I use wifi and get 8 ping to birmingham, 18 to manchester and about 35 to London.

No slowing or high ping for me on 50mb. I was actually downloading at 8000kbps yesterday somehow :S

I only wish they would stop throttling Usenet traffic in the evenings. Or if they really have to; throttle it to 50% of max or something, not 0%.

Perilous

For a while I had less than 1Mbps dlspeed during peak times with virgin. Massive disappointment unless you wanna fork out for the 50Mb connection

Yes. Absolutely.

If you have a really really good (like 5/5 bars) signal, the difference is practically unnoticeable, but if it’s not, it very quickly has some really horrible affects on your ping as it gets worse.

It’s not so much consistently bad ping (like typing ping google.com in CMD will only be fractionally worse), it’s just the point where line saturation (percentage of the connection speed in use) starts to affect your ping is a lot lower, and you’ll get a lot of weird spikes – the kind you don’t actually even notice until you try playing with wifi.

wifi doesnt affect shit if ur using decent pci wifi adapter and even an okish router

i cant even get 1ms difference on wifi vs cable and my router is like 10m away from desktop (so its only 90% signal)

wifi dongles are shit tho, if ur using that for gaming u should be checked by doctor :D
also my laptop has about 10-15ms increase on same wifi connection (its still 100% stable tho, no packet loss or choke)

bottom line, wifi lag is down to ur receiver in most cases

I’ve been using an usb wifi adapter (Ralink 2500 chipset) for two years now without any problems. A decent usb dongle will get its job done.

l ol with wire you lose like 5% of your data and with wi fi its over 50% so it means it has to send double the amount it is originally. Not talking about usb speed and converting wi fi signals from router and converting them back to usb hub.

humbug

.:ne:.

i had issues for a few months with them and i too had to get through to the UK tech support to actually get someone to do something about it. Managed to get the senior tech guys number for my area who was amazingly helpful.

Also.. 100mbit is already out where i live :)

What I’ve said is that I’ve been using it for a long time without no problems. I do play online games like tf2 and ql without any problems. Net_graph never shows anything unusual. And the ping is same on the wired connection.

It’s totally fine if you have a decent router and a decent dongle.

good thing tf2 doesnt require 50mbit/sec then
