Damn Virgin Media

Currently I am on the 30 MB Virgin media package. Although my upload and download are ok, my ping is awful, especially to the UK, I actually get higher ping to UK servers than to NL ones.
Does anyone know what the issue is? And how to fix it. I have already phoned Virgin Media, no help there, they pawned me off to a paid service to help increase my speed…
This is UK internet, you will find no help here!
“Have you tried unplugging your modem for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in?”
Virgin media customer service is the best.
What is worse is when you phone them up, you have to do through 4 separate menu’s with 5 opinions each, just to get to talk to someone.

That is a result from pingtest.

It’s funny because when you ring virgin media to do an upgrade they answer the phone straight away.
Ring them, Tell them you’re going to cancel. I threaten it all the time and i’ve not had problems in months.
Do what Gambles said, I have a lag issue that might be VM related, I used to do the upgrade route and then complain to the guy on the phone, you get through straight away and most of the time they just send you to someone straight away as well.
Don’t be afraid to be a cock, you are paying for it after all.
had this exact same problem, took 5 days of phoning them every day and every night until they realised it wasn’t my fault that the line was slower and the ping was high. Basically it took me getting through to a uk based call centre to get it fixed. The guy did some tests using remote desktop and verified that it was their problem. It seems i was getting data managed even though i wasn’t and hadn’t been downloading anything. I had been told up until this point a host of reasons why it was slow, from me downloading 12gb per day during peak times, my router was slowing it down to playing online games. Check your ping in the morning, if it’s good and gets progressively worse throughout the day, until, at night it’s awful, then you have the same problem i would assume. Also their foreign call centres are full of cheeky shits.
Well my ping does seem to go down now, what was the exactly problem they had, so I can quote it at them?
it was something to do with virgin media’s data management software or tech, it monitors to see if you’re downloading more than your fair share and will limit your line during peak times. These peak times aren’t normal peak times though. My ping would sort itself at around 1.30am and it would start going bad sometime in the afternoon. You really, really need to get in touch with someone from the call centres in the uk though. I told the foreign ones that i would leave if they didn’t get it sorted. they told me “thats fine sir”. they are really unhelpful and will recite the same bullshit lines over and over. check your speed on speed test aswell. i’m on a 20mb line and in the morning was getting 19.something mb dl and then when it got bad at night i was getting 0.76mb dl.
Going to bring some logic to this circlejerk.
Virgin Media are currently doing UK-wide maintenance to their backend to properly support increased upload speed (3mbit if you’re on 30meg, 5 if you’re on 50) and to truly support their 100mbit package they’re bringing out next year. When you do serious maintenance, there are problems.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also if you’re using wifi, don’t even dare complain about your ping.

i got it fixed within a day, after i got through to someone that would help and my problem sounds exactly like crashsites. they specifically admitted that they were at fault and there was a problem. 3 other people in my area were having the same problem and comlpained. They both got a free virgin media HD+ box for their trouble and i got a reduced bill.
