i just downloaded the new, free tf2 for macs, now i can play single player okay but it will not allow me to connect to a server, it says they are running on a newer version to mine, how can i fix this?

Right click tf2 -> properties -> Local Files -> “Verify integrity of game cache”

It means your MAC book is faulty. You should throw it away and buy a pc. Besides, tf2 barely runs on it anyway.

Steam should automatically update your game when you close it, if not try restarting steam or do as Racio says and verify your game files. Good luck!

I had the same problem, your solution fixed it and now the game crashes randomly whenever open backpack or join a server
