All of a sudden internet explorer is using 124.5k of memory for each tab. any solutions on how to lower this? or is it just because of a shitty pc? just for clarification this is my parents pc and i dont want to change alot, due to them being paranoid about viruses etc

Firefox?
forgot to add.
On windows XP
100% of the cpu is used all of the time even when we’re not using it
80 processes are running consistently
Also is it possible for the computer to mis-read how much ram it has?
originally the PC only had 256mb of ram and now it’s saying it has 900mb but nobody has put any extra hardware into the pc….
256MB hasn’t been an acceptable amount of RAM to have in a computer since 2004. I’m not even exaggerating.

This one is 6 years old and has 8 Gigabytes of RAM, argument invalid

I got a computer in 2003 that had 512MB of RAM. I’m not slagging you or your PC, I’m just telling you the reason you’re having problems is because it has a woefully insufficient amount of RAM to be even remotely useful in 2011, and there is absolutely no point in trying anything else.
80 processes is far too much on xp, even my w7 has only 70 and ur xp should have less than half of it

chrome 100%
Firefox 4 and Chrome are the best choices imo, but it comes down to personal taste really.
I use Firefox as main browser because of firebug, the way it handles downloads & page highlighting, which I prefer over Chrome’s options.
If you have a bad pc I’d probably go for Chrome though, just feels more lightweight.
