I’m not a fanboy or anything, I considered buying an ATI card cuz it has better performance than equivalent nvidia cards, I just have herd more people complain about their ATI cards, than nvidia.
So what you wrote is not what I think at all.

No, I also base it on my own experience. Besides, there is more to a gpu than just 3d rendering.
from a technical stand point ati cards since the 4000 series have been far superior. where as nvidia have just thrown money at devs.
before that i was an nvidia fanboy. through and through. now i see no reason to buy an inferior product or a brand new product when you can compare the performance gains of older high end cards over mid range modern ones, and will continue doing so no matter what “brand” that happens to be. hopefully will be getting a couple of gtx 560’s when they appear on ebay a bit cheaper for example.

i honestly cant believe people can use these shit excuses, when the underlying issue is not the hardware behind the brand, it is the brand itself and that you are an easily convinced consumer who will by the product that gets advertised the most.
this is like saying there is more to a book than just reading it; you can use it to wipe your arse as well. consider what a graphics card does in a gaming system….. renders 3d.
edit: also i once owned an nvidia fx5200 which had bad drivers and would not run css well. therefore all nvidia card future generations are shit (this is your own logic) past experience with a brand of graphics cards when there are only 2 companies competing in the gaming market is a very flawed way to judge due to the extremely high level of competition to control the market and therefore huge amounts of cash going into the development of new hardware, drivers, better support, and advertising. This will cause the “best card of the moment” to be a very volatile thing indeed.

If you havent had any issues with ati drivers, lucky you. I went with nvidia for my newest build just because ati drivers are fucking dire. I mean if you cant get anything as basic as gpu scaling to work on xp…

I buy nvidia because the drivers are actually capable of doing what I want them to do. I don’t want to bitch about with powerstrip to get it to do basic functions (720p24, 1080p60 to projector. And no, not some random benq or acer PoS). Nvidia allows me to do that. I have used an bought ATI and it didn’t allow me to do such things. As I said before, there is more to a gpu than just gaming performance. The ATI cards aimed at gamers all perform pretty well in games (when the drivers work, and if not then in about ~1month after game release), but anything other than that is just dire (based on my on experiences with multiple gpu’s from both brands). As I said before; Id rather pay less for the same product (which is what ATI/AMD fanboys want people to believe), but in reality it simply aint the same product.
Ps. the FX5200 is fucking dire, why would you buy that PoS? It was never meant to run css well (iirc its like an MX400 or someting)! Its like complaining intergrated graphics doesn’t work well in games. I know what you are trying to achieve with that troll statement, but it just shows you are completely missing the point.

I’d suggest a 560ti for the GFX card if you’re going NVIDIA, as someone else said. Nicely priced (£180-£200) and it’s a high end card that will futureproof you for major games like BF3. Otherwise maybe wait a bit if you’ve got a passable GFX card at the moment and the 570, 580 and 590 should drop in price.

RAM – Kingston 4GB, DDR3, 1333MHz, CL9, Kit Of 2
HDD – Samsung 1TB 7200RPM 32MB Spinpoint F3
DVD – Samsung SH-222AB, DVD+/-RW, 22x, Sata, Black
CASE – Thermaltake V3 Mid Tower, Black Edition
GX – Giga Byte Radeon HD6870, 1GB, GDDR5, OC OR Asus GeForce GTX560, 1GB, GDDR5, DirectCU II OC
PSU – Corsair 600W, 12cm Fan, ATX12V2.2, 80+
By comparing the benchmarks of the two cards, the HD6870 is superior in those games that I want to play. What I want to know which of the cards perform better on the Source engine (Looking @ TF2), that probably will decide which card I take. And would it really pay back getting a MSI GeForce GTX560 Ti, 1GB, GDDR5, Twin Frozr II in the long run ? And if I buy a 600W psu and use it with this build will it be less power efficient then a 500W psu?
how is this person so stupid, i have 2 rules that serve me well when coping with people on the internet and this explains 100% of all cases like this
1. if subject is putting someone or something down, or hyping something up despite the presence of factual evidence to prove his point otherwise, then logically this is making them feel important in some way.
2. the 50% rule… imagine someone of average intelligence. 50% of the world are more stupid than this.

Yeah there’s not much difference between a 560ti and 6870, either are very good. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
In terms of the source engine, TF2 particularly is notoriously CPU limited performance wise. Your CPU will completely kill the game even with a much lower spec card, so no worries there.
