Hey, need some help building me a PC. As the topic says I want a i5 2500k. Checked out some reviews and figured that ASUS P8P67 Pro mobo would be a good fit.

Got 450 lvl (555 pounds/630 euro), the pc will be for gaming only, and i’ll be oc’ing it soon, but not instantly after getting it.

As for the gx card i was thinking of spending about 150 pounds/170 euro, gtx 460 1 gb or an ati equivalent ?

Thanks in advance !

The P8P67 Pro is indeed a very nice motherboard, the bluetooth connection it has is a nice addition. Remember you’ll need DDR3 RAM for it btw.

GTX 460 is perfect for your price point, though it’s definitely worth looking at 6850s…
MSI recently put out their R6850 Cyclone Power Edition which… according to bit-tech, outperforms a 460 on it’s factory OC, and will OC even more if you want it to: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2011/04/01/msi-radeon-hd-6850-cyclone-power-review/1

Good choice for the mobo, stick with it.

Otherwise for my recommendations, grab a Gelid Tranquillo for a decent cooler if you plan on O/Cing in the future (maybe something better if you want to O/C hard, but this should do you well), a 500W power supply (please make sure it’s a decent brand like Corsair or OCZ, etc, the cheaper ones will cost you in the long run because they die), and 4Gigs of 1600Mhz DDR3 (seems to be the best place for O/Cing, and price-performance, for DDR3, at the moment).

Fit the rest of it around your budget, case wise and hard drive wise, etc.

Oh, and Spinpoint F3 1TB, great HDD.

I fully expect to now be slammed by a load of people for recommending pure crap, though hopefully not! :)

If you have any spare budget, you could also consider a decent SSD. They are really getting worth buying these days. The Crucial C300 64GB should be quite decent. Or if you have a larger budget, the vertex 3 series.

I recommend the 560 Ti, it’s pretty sweet. Asus’ top version is nice. Also, consider getting something like a hyper 212+ straight away since the boxed cooler is pure crap, it has cpu’s running at around 80-90c.

its crap, but if it’s 80-90c with stock cooler you have either overclocked or done something wrong :P

Sandybridge should have pretty good stock coolers, so unless you want to get the noise down or overclock you don´t have to get a separate cooler.

My 2500k had this http://img.hexus.net/v2/cpu/intel/SB/sb-16-big.jpg hsf with it, and I’ll be damned if that isn’t bloody awful. It’s the same hsf that came with e8000-series, so it was kind of curious.

Don’t get AMD/ATI unless you want to have the worst driver support ever. Generally the only problems nvidia users have are the ones using sli, and that is still nothing compared to AMD/ATI (pretty much every game is unplayable for the first month due to bad drivers LOL). The last good AMD/ATI card was the 9700pro…..

But 1155 is much cooler than E-series so that doesn’t say so much. But i agree that it is worse than Hyper212 or any other “not stock cooler”. But If you don’t overclock it’s not awful, and pretty quiet to be stock, just enable fan control, put it in SILENT in bios and it works.

ill agree for amd/ati beeing crap at drivers, when i install them makes my laptop boot from 30sec without them to about 60ish untill i can do smth on windows

You don’t want P8H67 if you want to overclock. you need P8P67 for that. But if you don’t intend to overclock you don’t need the “K” model of the CPU either. Just a heads up :)

otherwise its fine.

yeah didnt notice that it H and not P67 :D So what would be the biggest difference between the 3 mobos and the 3 gx cards. And should I go for 500 psu or 550 since I’m oc’ing, or even a 600w ?

H67 uses the integrated sandybridge cpu, stay away from it.

As for the difference, pro has bluetooth and a couple of additional features.
