If you get one of the newer i5’s, make sure you get the K version and the right chipset on the mobo else you wont be able to oc it.

those benchmarks test WHO IS BETTER AT RUNNING THE BENCHMARK. its the same as when people say to use glxgears as some sort of benchmark, it tests HOW WELL GLXGEARS RUNS, not anything else. so let’s not suddenly jump to conclusions that it somehow is indicative of a better cpu.
and xeon is such a common home processor, oh yes…
i have my phenom ii 945 x4 running at 4.3GHz. people who think amd’s are difficult to overclock are, in reality, just shit at overclocking and think it’s all about fsb and cpu clock multi.
I have same CPU and just got a question. Any idea why I can’t get my NB frequency above 2400 even with 1.4 voltage?
whats a NB freq :X

northbridge frequency. it’s important when overclocking. you are one of the people i meant when i said “people who are shit at overclocking and think it’s all about fsb and multi” i guess! :p

all boards, chips and dies are different, sometimes to huge degrees. you probably just hit the point that putting in more voltage isn’t going to make any difference.

I see what you did there :)
^ or he’s overheating

Your ram speed is probably 2 high because you increased your NB freq. What kind of speed is your ram build for ?

well, i can do voltage adjusts aswell but if ur mobo supports things like individual bridge speed adjustements ill take the blame of beeing stupid n00b who doesnt spend hundreds of quid on sick mobos and cooling solutions to gain maybe few hundreds of mhz
good topic now that we got rid of shrew btw, keep on going, maybe ill learn something new :]

If you bought a mobo which doesn’t let you alter the NB speed, for a chipset with an NB, and you planned on overclocking it, you need to do more research quite frankly…
Anyway, anyone feel like helping the OP out? I don’t have an AMD rig anywhere to go look at to help, nor can I be arsed to get googling ))

yeah turns out if u dont have L3 u dont have NB freq
