Sudden FPS drops

Solution for this may be the same as all the “can’t alt tab” threads but let’s give it a go.
Since the update before last, my FPS will occasionally drop for seemingly no reason from around 150 to slideshow levels.
This happens even with absolutely everything in the background turned off, and has never happened before.
Would appreciate it if someone could post the general fixes for this kind of thing, and anything else they’re aware of
Thanks people

I’m getting the same issues too, sudden drops from 120+ to a measly pathetic 10-20… all happened after the maps update :/
mumble/g15 overlays? confirmed to having issues in beta

Still on mumble 1.2, not using a g15 or anything like that, however if you mean -any- mumble overlay, I’ll check it out
I also don’t run windowed mode for various reasons
–Edit
Running without mumble running -seemed- to clear it up, so presumably that’s the issue, anything else?
Last edited by Cloud,
I run it with mumble 1.2.3, and it still drops with or without it. I dont run window mode, I can get neat fps without it so im not bothered.
Try to put off the explorer.exe @ taskmanager.
If it doesn’t help you, try – http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1093560&highlight=avast

I did say absolutely everything turned off ;)
Yes I have tried that as well
Playing the other day I don’t think it dropped, having done this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1043281
Which is odd considering it’s meant to deal with ping spikes, however I have not yet tested this enough to say it fixed the issue for good, keep em coming :)
What happens if you run a ‘clean’ install? I.e. no configs, no huds, no other modifications, just plain vanilla.
Also, have a look at Chris’ reset script in his configs thread. It has helped a million folks with various problems so far.
