Yo,

Iv got a seagate expansion that suffers from the horrible ‘click of death’ and i sent it back but they said it was fine. So sad face… anyway, was wondering if i could replace it with another HDD? I know you can replace them, but im not sure whether i need a certain type or whether they’ll all fit/work properly? The one im thinking of replacing it with is this..

Assuming you’ve got a SATA supportive board (if you bought a computer within the last 5 years, you definitely will), it will be fine.

edit: fuck, misread as internal

what tapley said.

Usually all portable Hdd’s are, is a sata hard disc in an enclosure, just unscrew your old one and un-slot the sata disc from inside and the new one will slot in fine.
The only thing you’ll need to make sure of is the new hard drive is as big as the old one and will slot inside the enclosure. But it’ll be either 2.5 or 3.5 inches big.

edit my bad, I haven’t done the leg work to find out if seagate use 1.8″ drives in the Expansion series or not.

If no one above has done that you may need to make sure it is not a 1.8″ drive inside
