Getting a similair issue at the moment.
Tried different configs (Dx9/max/highframes etc, tried without a fps config as well)
Basically i’ll be playing, my fps will suddenly spike downwards, sound will start looping then go quiet, i can move my mouse around but cant click anything then i will get some more looping sound then it will go quiet again and i’ll have to restart the computer to get it working.
Only appears to happen with tf2, no isses with about an hours worth of play of Killing Floor earlier. (TF2 happens within 20 minutes of me starting to play).

edit: but seriously, i’ll write something.
edit #2:
1.) backup only things you REALLY NEED (because anything could be the thing causing the problem, so the less stuff that you copy directly over the better)
2.) once backed up download this script ( http://fakkelbrigade.eu/chris/misc/reset.bat ) and PUT IT INSIDE THE /tf/ FOLDER.
3.) run the script. it describes what it does before it starts.
4.) now delete the entirety of the /team fortress 2/ folder (not the /tf/ folder, the one before that).
5.) run tf2
6.) see if problem still exists
7.) ?????
8.) profit

the “low fps fix” is no longer relevant, it was fixed.
The issue grows more and more obvious, i hope….
so the latest time it happened, this time running dx8 with maxframes chris…i left it whilst i got myself a pot noodle…
When i got back the game had disconnected me from the server with the error message:
[14:50] “disconnected: Your client has become corrupted and you need to restart the game”
Then i get disconnected from mumble and my entire computer lags for a little while.
I got server error messages on mumble about not being able to send UDP packets and switching to TCP then it switched back a short while later.
Turns out it didnt fix it, getting the same problem… surely there must be a way to fix this…
Seems i have fix the problem… This may sound daft but it has worked. All i do is set my Anti-virus to gaming mode… and it stops the freeze!
