Hey, recently I’ve noticed that my sound in TF2 is pretty bugged. I hear some sounds, but sounds such as the rocket coming out of a rocket launcher I do not hear. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

So far I’ve tried:

– Verifying integrity of game files
– Defragment of the cachefiles
– Updating sound drivers
– Reinstalling game
– Trying different headphones

I’m running out of ideas now.. any one?

tbh, i was about to suggest that whole list :D

anyway, only other thing i can think of is to check your sound settings.

Do it for windows first. Maybe you got surround sound set and it conflicts with your headphones?? But could try putting it to 2 speakers/headphones and see if that fixes it.

Next do it for TF2. Go into the settings and see what you got for the audio setup and fiddle about with it. I forget what type of settings are in there, but i believe you can setup for surround sound or 2 speakers, etc. Also you might have that high quality sound thing ticked, or not, whichever way round it is, try the opposite.

hmm, just thought of something else. It’s a long shot i suppose but u say you tried different headphones, but maybe it’s actually the jack it plugs into. That might be damaged somehow. Does your PC have 2 different sockets you could plug into? Most do these days and i know mine does. Perhaps if you try plugging into the alternative socket, though if thats the case, i would have thought everything, not just TF2, would sound bugged.

Once you done that, go into control panel and i “think” it’s under the sound settings, but do the wizard test config thingy, which plays test sounds on your speakers. Try various ones so you can see if windows is having trouble with a certain direction of sound.

if none of the above work, well meh, i’m out of ideas tbh

that happens to me. i think its if you have a custom hit sound or something, i use fraggas sound and when i join a few match servers the servers cancel out my hit sound but also some others such as a heavies minigun. i think these servers have sv_pure 2 or something because it doesnt happen on a few servers

He reinstalled tf2 so normally tf2 should be vanilla (no fps cfg etc.). If the hitsound is the problem your suggestion was a nice speculation ^^

Would be an epic fail to reinstall tf2 and directly use all the old cfgs and settings…

depends on whether he has steam cloud on. i turned it on and tf2 brought a virus infected config back so i recommend you turn it off.
