Alright well I’ve finally exhausted all my other options. Basically every time I start any games or anything (quake live , tf2, css, League of legends, I get stutters every second or so And my fps is half of what it used to be. I also get extremly bad mouse lag. It happened before and I fixed it with a system restore and it worked fine for ages but this morning after turning it on its started again and I really don’t want to have to do a system restore every time it happens.

PS. I leave my computer on almost constantly. Last night was the first time i’ve turned it off in about a week and a half, Minus the odd reboot.

Have you checked that something (AV or whatever) isn’t stealing cycles?

Oh yea forgot the specs :/
Amd phenomII
2gb ddr3 ram
ATI HD4200 (not the best but it can run most games at 30 fps and up)
650w corsair psu
Windows xp sp3
But i’ll give it a go with AV off.

Seriously, you just hear “I’m having performance issues” and immediately you think it is a virus?

That’s just terrific.

Interesting fact: a lot of performance issues with Windows are caused by Windows.

Another interesting fact: System restore reverts certain updates.

Yet another interesting fact: It might be an update that is causing this.

Another fascinating fact: Windows Update is not a virus.

I really don’t think its a virus, That was my first tought so I did a scan with Avast, Kapersky and eset smart security.

Er, no. That’s not what system restore does.

r then you should try creating restore point, then installing any app, and after restart restoring system – MAGIC

I think i’ll just have to reformat, Doesn’t seem to be a solution.

You have 3 AV? that might be one issue. Hows your PC affected when you load non graphic demanding apps as apposed to graphic demanding apps? CTRL-SHIFT-ESC –> performance tab. Is the page file nearly full? Is the memory nearly full? is the CPU idling at 50%?

Just some checks that might give you a better idea of whats wrong.

Right I reformatted and its still happening, I’m struggling to get 70 fps in quake live.
