The effect of nicotine on mould (mold) growth?!?!?

Sorry I am really fascinated; I left two bottles of J20 on the side of my table after consuming the contents. In both I started using them as dispensers for chocolate wrappers, but in one I also used it to dispense my old “snus”. (If you do not know snus is like a tobacco you place on your gums in teabag form). In the “snus” bin one, I also would spit a bit after getting my snus out to get rid of the leakage.
What was weird was in the normal empty j20 bottle there was no growth of any mold, yet in the other j20 bottle, where I had used as a snus bin, there was a very fine furry mold growing (looked like silky grass with dark bulbs on the end… very fine).
As a scientist this made me very curious to what factor caused the mold to grow in the snus-bin j20 bottle and not the other?
p.s. I’m starting to believe that it grew on the snus-bin medium because of the dilution of my saliva on the j20 (providing the sugar content of the j20 makes it a self preservative), but still… growing in a medium with such a high nicotine content?
Quick. Run to the nearest pharmacy. You have discovered the new penicillin!
My theory is quite similar to yours. It’s that the moisture in the saliva helped the mold to grow. I don’t think the nicotine levels are that high because you have ‘sucked out’ most of the nicotine when consuming the ‘snus’.
Out of curiosity and completely unrelated to your topic, what snus are you using?
I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that mould would rather grow on organic materials than plastic wrappers.
What is this shit?
Are you kidding, snus is awesome.
Its furry! :D
i doubt it’s the nicotine helping it grow, more likely it’s the “base” the snus offered it. The nicotine would more likely kill the stuff, as IT WILL DO WITH YOU MWHAHA
are you fucking serious, we have to play in few hours, go to bed.
rofl..
I think a combination of things. Firstly same thing with a coffee cup. If you leave a coffee cup with coffee in it, it’ll get mouldy. If there’s no coffee in one, it won’t mould over as quickly. You’ve got a food source in there (the snus), there’s moisture (your saliva), there’s probably bacteria in your saliva to boot.
Moar general portion and general lös (loose/wet) to the people!
