I was just wondering what you all thought about this new rig that i am getting
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L iG31 Express Motherboard
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Kit
ATI HD Radeon 4850 512mb
Western Digital 500GB Caviar Black
Antec 300 Mid tower case
LG GH22NS50 22x DVD/RW
The total of all this is £384.68
I don’t know if to wait and get a i5 to be more future proof but please put your opinion! =)
Nice, but a couple of things:
1) You might want to get a different motherboard. That board dosen’t support PCI-E 2.0 so bassically any graphics card upgrade you get in future won’t do anything because it will be bottlenecked by that.
2) Wheres the power supply? :>
Also with that budget to spend theres no point waiting on i5.

You can OC that E8400 alot, ive got a E8200 at 3GHz atm.

^ That would need extra cooling , there are enough horror stories about crossfire breaking down or even melting etc. if not properly cooled.
But yeh , a good build. I’ve got a similar one tbh , a E8500 3.16ghz only the gpu is a weaker 9500gt 512mb. TF2 runs like a dream (if thats what you’re after)

Very true that, but I have a second hand E2140 I bought off ebay for £25 running at 3GHz atm also. (NOTE: This is a very stupid idea and i’m just really cheap so don’t do this yourself).

I already have a power supply which is 700 watts and i might consider a better motherboard because i do want to try Crossfire one day

Crossfire is an immense waste of money. Whatever performance increase you get from buying a second graphics 2 years from now, will not be nearly as big as just buying a new graphics card.

What?! Did your ego take a hit? I did not call myself an expert, nor did I say anything was wrong with the setup?
I simple stated that imo, there might be an better alternative. Depending on the answers I get.
Why do you care? You are not the one getting a new rig, are you? I just bought mine, and feel that know whats on the marked today. Feel free to prove me wrong, but christ give me a chance.
