Jesus fuck, ofcourse we will be in the EU if we become independent

lol, scotland leaving the EU…

I was actually gonna make a thread about Lisbon a few weeks ago to see how other Europeans felt about it. We’re getting a lot of ridiculous propaganda thrown at us and pretty much all of it is conflicting/probably lies… One camp tells us (okay heavily implies) we’ll get kicked out of the EU if we vote No, another one tells us 95% of the EU wants us to vote No, there are other implications that a yes vote will be the downfall of democracy in the world… At least there aren’t any posters about microchips being put in babies this time around…

Lisbon treaty is funny :D. I wasn’t bothered getting on the register (just 18) mainly because there is no way to inform yourself properly here without reading the treaty itself which is far too time consuming for me at the moment. Any leaflets issued by anyone all contradict each other, it’s great. If I had a vote I’d vote yes simply because the only real political parties who support a no vote are connected to terrorists (Sinn Fein), dodgy Russian (Libertas) and the socialist (there insane in Ireland). Then there’s various group things who support no. The funniest I find are the taxi men who are just being in general bug cunts to the government because they feel like it (you show me where Lisbon has to do with taxis). Once again the ‘bigger’ political parties don’t inform people on good reasons to vote yes. I would fairly sure the vast majority of people don’t have a clue what the treaty is about and will vote based on which sign is the prettiest or which made up the best lie. Oh and yes the best part is it’s apparently perfectly legal to lie through your teeth on campaign posters. /rant over.

EIRE

Oh and on general terms don’t use that word. Slightly politically incorrect (I don’t really care but some people get horribly offended).

Fuck those free staters, they left us to rot up north with all these Brits!

Eire isn’t remotely politically incorrect! Not that I’ve ever heard of anyway.

Moreover anyone who’s remotely offended by which of Ireland and Eire the country is named is a bibless retard.

Anyway, yeah, regardless of the outcome of the vote: the no-campaign here is one of the biggest national embarrassments I have ever seen.

VOTE NO OR MADDY MCCANN GETS RAPED
VOTE NO OR MADDY MCCANN GETS RAPED
VOTE NO OR MADDY MCCANN GETS RAPED
VOTE NO OR MADDY MCCANN GETS RAPED

This is not a joke. There’s one poster doing the rounds in town with a Maddy McCann lookalike crying. It’s even got fucking historical innaccuracies in it saying that Irish democracy started in 1916. How fucking embarrassing is that?

Saying Eire is politically incorrect? o.O

Also, I think as far as No posters go, Cóir must be the worst. Some kind of weird conservative Catholic front from what I can tell… That said, all of the posters are abysmal (“I’m Safer in Europe – vote Yes”).

I actually did read most of the treaty last night and it’s PRETTY dry. The only bits of interest as far as I’m concerned are Articles 27 and 28 which pertain to the setting up of a European common security/defence army deal, which imo is not desirable. (Particularly as it specifies that countries will be obligated to improve their military capacities… Ireland doesn’t have any spare money to be wasting on guns kthx)
Otherwise it’s mostly dry organisational details on dry bureaucratic subjects.

We’re not voting on ratifying the Lisbon Treaty. Technically, we’re voting to change our constitution to allow us to ratify it.

And I quote, word for word, from one part of the amendment that’ll be made:

The State shall not adopt a decision taken by the European Council to establish a common defence pursuant to Article 42 of the Treaty on European where that common defence would include the State

it was actually saying irish “freedom” began in 1916,but yes,it’s an embarrassment to the nation and they even had the gall to accuse the Yes side of scare mongering,i just hope the vote isn’t manipulated again by the myths that lisbon means the end to sovereignty and is somehow going to allow conscription. :S

I know. Referendum = change in constitution. :p It’s still a good idea to know what we’re allowing our constitution to ratify, though.

That’s good, though I wouldn’t agree with the idea at all, whether or not it involves Ireland, but I guess that’s a matter for other countries.
