you got it
Shouldn’t even necessarily have anything to do with sponsors. Just a total ballocks criteria they’ve given. £1500 minimum but only £1k more if 64 teams show up? The difference in revenue from ticket sales between say 6 teams signing up and 64 is absolutely staggering.
There is practically no realistic incentive here to try and push for as many teams as possible, relative to the impact it would have on prize pool. Getting 64 teams to attend is a rediculously high bar to set, I’d go as far as to say completely insurmountable for a community the size of TF2.
If they had any sense, they would scale the prize pool linearly in proportion to the number of teams signed up so that with each extra team the prize pool would grow bigger.
Better yet, have incremental steps which after being passed, the prize pool is increased, either by a lump sum or by percentages. As an example using random generic values, could be first 10 teams signed up, 5% of total ticket sales for TF2 added to minimum prize pool. After 15 teams it becomes 7% including the 15 teams already added. After 25 teams, 10% including those added.
With incremental steps there are always threshold targets which are close enough and realistically achievable to incentivise the community to get as many teams attending as possible. The way multiplay have done this just bears no thought, blatantly they’ve just decided that its £1.5k max for TF2 then set a massively unrealistic threshold that they know will never be hit, and even if it was, only £1k extra???
The events probably going to sell out anyway, with or without 64 tf2 teams, its meerly a small incentive to encourage more tf2 teams to come and show their support.
Less bitching and writing wall’s of text.
More signing up and supporting the game.
i’ll re-iterate that this is one of hte last big chances to get tf2 supported and provide a constant stream of cash. Last lan we managed to get 22 or 26 ( i forget) teams to sign up without even a sniff of a foreign clan turning up so its totally do-able.
Only people that can say they’ve done that in tf2 so far is the ruskies.
Is the TUP £140 with discount?
Or 20% off that? Like £112?
+1 Tapley.
+1 Admirable.
More brits should show up this time too anyway. I wasn’t there last time as I just assumed hardly anyone was going, I reckon there’s a few more out there like me.
I was hoping to get a big info post up about this before now but I couldn’t get the info in time.
This is just a start. We need to support the lans we have if we want to get more, not sit and bitch that its not enough. We finally have a LAN wanting to get behind TF2 and support us, and we have a chance of bringing a regular major LAN event to TF2. Everybody should do everything they can to get behind this and support it because if we manage to make something out of this event then it will continue to grow. The ball is in our court now to prove to sponsors that TF2 is worth supporting.
Apart from the event, those of you that have been to any TF2 events will support me in saying its good fun to meet up with the other teams and players when we all get together, and the i-series (while a bit expensive) is normally alot of fun and those that have been to them in the past normally want to go back again regardless of the tournaments.
I’m gonna buy a ticket before the early-bird thing ends tomorrow night.
Just got a few queries…
What was the setup last year?
Did most TF2 players go with TUP or BYOC?
I understand TUP players can’t sit with BYOC players.
I could bring my gayming laptop pretty easy on the old aeromaplane so either is an option for me but TUP would be smoother and easier.
And are £72 & £140 the discounted prices or what?
cu@lan
140 tuap, 90 byoc I believe.
Once again I’ll iterate – does anyone know if that’s with the 20% early bird discount, or is it 20% off the prices I stated?
