Hi guys.

I recently have had alot of issues with my gaming. First my gfx card died and I have to wait to get it back. Now I am getting as high as 50 choke when playing in publics.

Although I have yet to monitor this in matches I feel the effects at times.
Sluggish responses, delay in seeing kills count, rockets firing a second late. headshots counting a split second after they used to. Etc.
I have found a solution but I would like to know if anyone has any idea on why things have messed up for me.

Before my computer issues.
good ping ranging from 20-60 depending on server.
choke never seemed an issue and therefore was not monitored.
rate 30k updaterate 66 cmdrate 66
fps maxed at 65 but generally would stick at between 80-150.

Since then
ping remains the same
choke ranging from 0-50 staying constant 50 in even small battles
rates remained the same
fps would drop as low as 50 (worse gfx card, yes I know cpu counts for more I dont understand it either)

Now my solution has been to lower both my cmd rate to 30 and my updaterate to 20. I get very little choke if any with this. I only found this after using my misses rates as she plays on defaults. Just as a side note she is running a weaker system and her fps stays around 30-40. So it doesnt seem fps related.

Any ideas ?
Because my updaterate is so low my lerp will not go below 50, I havent noticed much of an issue yet as I have yet to play much with the new rates. Also I dont wish for people to whine at me to ‘get rates’ ugh … Does anyone else have this issue ?

of note perhaps ? is that I am with Virginmedia, and the system is a fresh install within last month.

im well aware of that but if I increase my rates I have 50 choke .. did you not read what I wrote ?

some places restrict rate to 30k I have tried upping to 50k however.

Also my cmdrate is at 50 so if my fps drops I am covered

I am gonna lower my settings even more to see if I can get a bit more fps. and make sure it never drops below 65. then ill try upping my rates again.

okay I am now running the game in windowed mode as I have a feeling this card just cant handle 1440×900 as everysetting I lower makes no dent in the fps.

anyway im not running in windowed mode, dx81 everything on as low as it can go (no fps config yet)
I noticed my fps occasionally went as low as 60 (cmdrate is 50) but even when my fps was 70 (max_fps 70) I was getting as much as 25-30 choke.

edit : what effect does running a small download have. I noticed yesterday we were downloading at 30kb/s for a while.

edit2 : I am still getting some areas where I seem to get ‘lag’ for want of a better word at this time my choke jumps to about 20.
Its actually more like a stutter ?

Had same problem but was limited to certain servers at 2peak hours” mainly dustworld, assuem simply had bad rootign as everything what you have described is what i had for certain hours of the day yet other times would be fine.

On BT internet and they are shit too so dont help :) I never fixed it simply changed servers :)

That fps thing is bs. I get a constant 100+ fps in publics, yet I get up to 50 choke even in 6v6s. Kinda got used to it.

Would any of this have anything to do with my game randomly freezing at times?
It might freeze once in two weeks or five times in a match, might freeze for half a second or for 15 seconds. Afterwards I sometimes need to record a demo or people go invisible.
Constantly have over 80 fps.

Someone fix this so ana can shut up.

yes in a match it does make my rate 50 and therefore I can have as much as 50 choke, but in pubs that allow my cmd and updaterate to 20 I can have 0 choke.
