just common sence, u cant get virus if u dont use some crapy firefox or ie and dont click open on .exe files…
i havnt used antivirus soft for….3 years now and havnt got anything from internet that would make my pc unusable… if ur smart, make a limited user, use opera(safest browser imo) and dont install anything that u cant find on download.com… will make ur pc faster and life easier :]
Why not just get linux or mac :x
I personally use windows but thats more down to lazyness… But if you really want safety then go with Linux or Mac.
sure, tf2 on linux… go for it… lol
p.s. im serious, how more safe u can be? u can be an idiot on any OS and type ur username on hackers site and it will get stolen anyway

:P The point is they wherent typing it in, they where just clicking a link and then pow their steam logs out and boom they cant log back in.
Im sure i got it working for a bit when i was on Linux, wasnt that great tho :x
Ye it runs fine on linux.
The ingame browser spazzes out a bit but it’s not unplayable.
Well I clicked it and my steam is still working (for now? :D)

I’m pretty sure that’s impossible.
=[IDK]=JvanW sent me the “vote for me” link, I was 1 second away from clicking. I assume that means his account has bee stolen?

JvW in reqruitment thread:

Thnx for the reply. ;
squeak sent mine
NO ANTIVIRUSZOR AT ALL > Win
I normally hate to get involved in these sorts of flamewars, but… **sigh**
Looks like i’ll have to give my 2 cents.
TF2 on linux? It can be done no problem. I’ve did but rule of thumb is that is if you didn’t already know it could be done theres no point.
Anti-virus? Ffs, Common Sense > all +1
There was an interesting article posted a few days ago by someone who works on OpenBSD (the most secure operating system in the world and is involved in developing the linux kernel) about this sort of thing. She herself, who is employed to develop secure, virus proof operating systems stated she does not use Anti-virus for the simple reason that no anti-virus can protect from anything at all then common sense can’t.
PROTIP: Use firefox with no-script or Opera (i personally do the latter). Opera is the most secure (and standards compliant if you care) browser there is. I click on all the dodgy links people send me to have a look at the code of each page and what various things they do. What I can tell you is this:
The one i was sent from Squeaks hacker i had a look at, its 100% scripted, it steals it directly from your steam cache.
So ye, 2 main things:
– Don’t waste your time with anti-virus, it dosen’t work.
– Use Opera or Firefox with No-Script plugin.
Cheers,
Adam
as it happens yeah, my account was hacked, but I didnt click on any link or anything, just signed out and password changed =/
thankfully got it back within 24 hours….
EDIT: Squeak and Jvan have got their accounts back now
https://addons.mozilla.org search for “NoScript”
