Trust me and get the Gigabyte GM-M8000
Mx518 is just perfect imo, its cheap (though you didnt say money did not matter), got a good grip, never skips or anything. Ive used mine for about 4-5 yrs now, and still love this mouse. Ive tried Ikari, didnt really like it, good grip on it, but the mwheel really sucks. As I jump with scrolling down the ikari mouse was a bad choise for me, also got some problems with the mouse skipping, couldnt rocketjump at something inbetween low and mid sensitivity without the mouse fucking it up. Also had some probs with the cable on the mouse, it would just stop working for several secounds, but that was probably just me beeing unlucky with it.
So, mx518 for life :D
I have now read an enormous amout of opinions and reviews and also went to a store to feel the mice.
I also looked at many top teams in TF2 and CS and checked what mice they use.
It seems like almost all fps-players use optical mice and almost all of them the Deathadder. Some also used the MX518 and the Intellimouse 3.0.
I wonder if all those people just buy a Deathadder because everyone else use it, or if they really know about the properties of the competing mice.
Anyhow, I guess the quality is good on all three of the mentioned mice.
However, I noticed that after using an Ikari mouse, all other mice feels uncomfortable in some way.
I haven’t tried the Gigabyte GM-M8000 yet however. It seems to have a bit similar shape to the Ikari.
daN : Do you have this mouse ?
What can you say about it ? Does it have negative acceleration ? Does it skip ?
What about the lefting distance until it stops tracking ?
Macisum, did you try the Ikari laser or optical ?
I have never had any problems with rocket jumping with my Optical at least.
If there really is a problem with rocketjumping with the Ikari laser then I cannot use it of course.
I’m still thinking about the Ikari laser. Sure, some people say it has neg. acc, but many people and reviewers says it hasn’t.
The reason I am thinking about the laser instead of a new Ikari optical is because the precision tracking is said to be much better on the laser. Also it has several interesting features that the optical don’t have.
The Deathadder is also a main alternative. Since so many like it I guess it’s techniqally very good. My only problem is the shape. While it is not horrible, it is definetely not as comfortable as the Ikari (I find the DA a bit too flat).
I’m a bit sceptical about the MX518. It is a very old mosue so I guess it has some technical drawbacks compared to newer mice. Also it is a bit heavy and the shape is not very comfortable, although not horrible either.

Legends dont die.
as you will already know, the skipping will not matter to you, as you use a highish mouse sens
The mx518 actually has like one of the best sensors around. It was the top mouse until the deathadder came out.
Ok, let’s see. I’m now quite sure I will buy either an Ikari laser or a Deathadder.
I was touching a lot of mice today.
Except for the Ikari, the DA is the most comfortable I think. The only big problem on the DA is where to keep your ring finger and little finger while playing. It is not nice to have them touching the mousepad while you play.
To sum up :
Deathadder :
+ The best optical sensor on the market with 1800DPI and it almost never skips
+ Shape is decent
– Tracking distance is said to be very high in some cases
– To get the right drivers to make it work in Vista is said to be a mess.
– The build quality doesn’t seem to be very good. A lot of mice malfunction after some time.
Ikari laser :
+ Best comfort for the hand among all mice on the market (in my opinion).
+ Is said to have extremely accurate tracking
+ You can adjust your DPI in 1 DPI steps and you have a “freemove” function in the software.
+/- Some people get negative mouse acceleration and some people get none.
Since neg. mouse acc. usually occcurs only for very low sens players, I guess this is not a problem for me.
– The build quality doesn’t seem to be very good. Many mice are defect or malfunction after some time.
The comfort is really the most important aspect when you buy a mouse I think. If you find the mouse annoying in some way, you will not play well no matter good the mouse is in other aspects.
The second most important aspect is the precision and reliability.
The Ikari definitely wins in the firt category.
The second category is a bit unclear. The DA is a safer choice there, but the Ikari is said to be really good unless skipping+neg. acc. occurs.
If you actually bothered to read the replies I gave you in this topic you wouldn’t need to ask the same questions and make plainly wrong comments again and again.
I have read all comments you and everyone else have written and I am greatful for the help.
I have also read hundreds of comments and reviews of other people and I’m summing up what I have learned so far and don’t think I have said something untrue.
Some problems occur only on some mice and for some mousepads and so on, which doesn’t mean everyone have them, but this I haven’t claimed either.
Anyway, I think I buy an Ikari laser and a Steelseries 5L mousepad. This combination seems to be very good.
If I would encounter skipping anyway, I buy a Deathadder.
+ The best optical sensor on the market with 1800DPI(The Razer Mamba’s sensor is alot higher DPI, i think 5600DPI or something?) and it almost never skips
I think that is what KOVACS was talking about.
The Mamba has an optical sensor ?
Ok, didn’t know that. Anyway, nothing that really effects my choice, since I never considered the Mamba.
Edit : No, the Mamba is not optical…
Ok, I admit I am not 100% sure the Deathadder is the optical mouse with the most DPI on the market, but noone has mentioned any optical mouse with higher DPI in this thread ?
If there are any such mice I would be very happy to hear about them.
