If you have some money to spend, I would strongly recommend a pair of Astro a40’s. They’ve solid sound quality, the mic is clear and somewhat crisp, and the soundamp does an amazing job.
)))
I made a thread like this a year ago and people suggested the Sennheiser HD598, I got those in the end and they have been great.
I use a 6€ clip-on mic with them. Works perfectly and the sound quality is decent (or at least good enough).
a40’s are good but not worth the money to be honest
tek syndicate made a small but detailed series on good audio setups categorized on your budget, its headphones + seperate mic mostly but thats how you get the best for your money

vids like these (or even specifically these vids) should be the very first thing shown to people asking for a headset.
if you attend lans, or live in a noisy environment, then you could simply get closed headphones or in-earphones.
but headsets and other “gaming” peripherals have always been an insult.
in the first vid, they talk about “bang for buck”, and this is exactly the reason to get separate pieces.

Found this gem today:
“I bought a $1000 set of earphones one time, and the sound quality was so amazingly clear that I could actually hear the company which made them laughing at me every time I put them on.”
Like others said: hyperx cloud is the only exception to the “seperate headphone + mic gives you more value for the money” rule.
HyperX Cloud 2 will be out soon btw, which has its own USB sound interface so you dont rely on your crappy onboard soundcard microphone input, and it has built in virtual surround (your game outputs 7.1, sound interface translates that to a stereo signal, which can sound surprisingly accurate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVdgMQC2rYM )
