Valve removed option to chat through groups?

Am I the only one who can’t chat to people through the “groups” tab next to “friends” anymore?
I really fucking hope I just changed my settings in some way, because everything about leading my team(s) will be 10x more difficult and time consuming if this is the case. I also see no reason whatsoever to remove such a useful feature.
Anyone else having the same problem?
Works for me:
friends window > groups tab > arrow next to group name > join group chat room
Using non beta steam, maybe try opting out if you’re in beta and see if it comes back?

We talk about chat with separate group member. I dont know how to gather my team without this option :D
I use the “Tag as” button when you right click a friends name and put them in different tags such as “6s scrims”, “HL Scrims”, “Highpanders”, “CS:GO” and such.
Wait do you mean you just want to see a list of group members so you can easily start individual chats with them? You can tag people on your friends list and it will group them together if they have the same tag. Click on the arrow by their name then ‘tag as…’ It’s completely independent from actual steam groups but if you have the same members as the group tagged together then it’s basically the same.
If that’s not what you mean then idk.

As far as I know, phishing bots used public groups to message people through that option and spam them without having them in friends easily.
I do know that there could have been some other way to fix that but it was the easiest for Valve to just remove it, but for now at least tagging the people is one solution if you can adapt to that.

Just so impractical. Like maxxx said, it was so nice to just be able to quickly gather the team, and just with a quick glance see who was on/offline incase we needed mercs and such. Also, I can’t write to people I don’t have on my friendslist now. Being a leader of 3 teams, this tag thing is gonna be a bit annoying, but better than nothing I guess..
Having everyone on friends and having them tagged up into groups works fine imo, but you could also have a look at the steam group forums thingy maybe. If everyone subscribes to the forum, they get that green envelope thingy on steam, so they can’t possibly miss the message. Only hard part obviously is to actually get them to subscribe, and I don’t think there’s a way of seeing who has and who hasn’t done so..

Is subscribing different from joining?
Yes. You join the steam group and then you can subscribe to any forums it may have.
