Please help a nerd decide which one of these awesome looking games to get involved with. They both look amazing but which one would/have you bought and why? Would love your opinions.
Star Citizen introduction video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M995Mqr67E&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLVct2QDhDrB3ZFJgUystJmvMXivxG-r3V
Elite Dangerous Alpha gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm9W8vs0IWo
Star Citizen website: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ (Excessively nice website btw!)
Elite website: http://elite.frontier.co.uk/
I suppose the fact SC has a bigger player base makes it more likely to stay around for longer, but, you know, Elite is Elite and I remember the first game on BBC Micro back in the day…
Please help! Thank you.

Star Citizen had a booth next to us at DH winter 2014. The game was still in an early stage so all you could do was to race a space golf-cart around a space hangar.
Hope this helps.
Heh, you have to buy them as an extra with in game currency. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/voyager-direct/hangar-buggies
You can also get a fish tank and various species of under water animal from different planets, (even if they look suspiciously similar to Earthly variants!), with which to decorate your hangar, not to mention posters, https://robertsspaceindustries.com/voyager-direct/hangar-posters and decorations https://robertsspaceindustries.com/voyager-direct/hangar-decorations so yeah. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/voyager-direct/Fishtank
That helps so much. Many millions of thank you’s good sir.

Damn YOLO. I YOLO’d and bought myself a game package for Star Citizen. Only after you part with your cash do you get an inkling of minimum specs required…oh dear. My YOLO is gonna cost me an update.
DirectX11 GPU, Decent Quad core CPU, 8Gb RAM and a 64 bit OS. I have one of those. A 2Gb 560Ti which is barest minimum. My Quad core CPU is a baddy so it looks like I now need a new MoBo, new CPU, new OS and new RAM.
This game is going to cost me a fucking fortune, it best be amazing or I shall cry.
If it’s any consolation, reading that last bit made me laugh.
Many millions of thank you’s good sir.
Hurrah. My fee for providing such a service is either 16Gb of RAM or an i5-4760K.
I shall expect my payment in the post next week. Many millions of thank you’s good sir.
Star Citizen just hit 40 million of the dollars in funding and 405,000 citizens signed up to play.
Once the dog fighting module is released at the end of April those numbers are going to skyrocket even further.
This game is going to be HUGE and special and fantastic and around for years and amazing and all of the things that will make it incredible…probably.
I plan on getting lost in the ‘verse for a long time. Think I’m going to specialise in weapons and overclocking them to be the best around, make a fortune selling the best to the richest. Then buy a huge ship and cruise around doing whatever with a nice crew.
For anyone interested and with questions about the game or whatever, feel free to ask away, watch some videos, or just browse https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.comthe forums[/url] for answers, there’s loads of information out there and in my brain, I’ve done a lot of the hard work for you really, delve inside my mind, I dare you! Ask me stuff.
Just to re-iterate, you can buy the game now by pledging 24 Euros. That gives you a copy of the game and the Aurora MR starter ship, as well as a hangar, some starting UEE credits and insurance for the hull of your ship for a couple of months.
For pledging 32 Euros you get the same plus alpha and beta access too.
You can spend a little more, a lot more, or even stupid amounts if you so wish, with plenty of choice inbetween, but you only need to spend the 24 Euros to play the game.
Another thing to note is that there will never be a sale on these things…ever. In fact once the game launches you won’t be able to buy ships with money again. They literally don’t require any more funding as it is, so it will never go down in price. Also, if new people got ships for less than original backers the forums would explode and the world would probably end, some of these people are taking this game quite seriously. You never have to encounter these people if you don’t want to, a PvP slider will be provided for those that seek less people to interact with.
At release it will be AT LEAST twice the current 24 Euros. Got to be worth a punt, surely?
Ok so you’ve explained in how many ways we can spend money on this, but what is it?

Space sim to put it crudely
I don’t want to even look at this shit, this is how you fail Uni exams. Shame on you Monkeh, shame on you.
sounds to me this is eve online

Star citizen is what eve online could have been, and its different. Its going to be played from first person, the battles will be on a smaller scale since everything is physically emulated, it’s basically a ww2 fighter pilot game set in space & the roles that people can do are similar to eve online, but there is no skill system.
Not necessarily combat based tho, it does have the economical chain of eve online in a different way.
fun fact: player to AI ratio will be about 1 to 10

Have a look at the OP Spike, check out the videos I linked, especially the ‘Introduction….’ video.
It’s going to be a space SIM that is skill based, ie you fly your ships in real time and real physics. That’s where it’s different to Eve which is more spreadsheets and less skill.
It’s difficult to fit into a single post why this is worth your attention but if you like MMO’s, space sims or vast, open world sand box experiences then this may be for you.
It’s being made by Chris Roberts who made the Wing Commander games and lots of other amazing games a few years ago before going off to make films such as ‘Lucky Number Slevin’. He’s a very accomplished game maker and this is going to be the best game ever.

Sorry for what seems to appear as laziness, but I’m at work, so I’ve not been able to do that. Will check as soon as I get home :)
Hey, no problem. Now I’m no longer at work or using a phone, so I can take a bit of time to fill you in…WITH MY FISTS!!!
No, seriously, this game is going to be amazing. If you ever played Elite as a kid or the wing Commander games you’ll have an idea of what this game is going to be about.
You get given a galaxy sandbox in which to play around in. You can be a trader, a mercenary, a bounty hunter, a pirate, an information dealer, an arms dealer, a miner, a salvager, there’s lots and lots more stuff you can do including racing and just pissing around.
The game will be truly ‘next gen’ and will require a beast of a machine to run on high settings. It’s being made by a guy called Chris Roberts who made some of the most loved games of all time in the Wing Commander series as well as Freelancer and Privateer, all beasts of games that still get played today. He went off to Hollywood to make some films for a while and now is back with a bang!
Star Citizen – What is it? is a good place to start, give you an example of what’s to come. This one is good too. All in game footage, it will look like that as you play…*drool*
Here’s the youtube channel with a tonne of information to have a look at, http://www.youtube.com/user/RobertsSpaceInd
It sounds a lot like Eve Online but is a totally different animal. These ships are designed like real ships. They all fit together and have moving parts and you can walk around inside them, man turrets, become a science officer or whatever. The scope is HUGE!
Eve is spreadsheets in space, this is about player skill, ACTUAL flying of craft with real physics and thrusters and engines and stuff. Boarding and FPS sections included.
They have 40 million dollars with which to make this game and no publisher in sight, so it’s all going on game development.
Having a quick browse through the funding goals should give you another idea of the depth this thing is going to go into, it’s kind of mind boggling and awesome.
There will be 2 parts to the game. A single/Co-op experience called Squadron 42 which plops you into the military and then gives you choices and stuff. Once you finish that, (You don’t have to finish it, you can skip it if you like and go become a pirate from day 1), then you get to play Star Citizen which will be a MMO style persistent universe where you can influence the stories and just go out a make a living doing whatever you like.
405,000 people signed up and it’s not even in alpha yet…it really is going to be something special this.
The Website is probably the best website for any game I’ve ever seen and has all the info you could want, lot’s of it buried away in random threads or videos, but there is a lot of stuff to find.
It’s going to be epic and amazing and utterly brilliant. You really should be getting on board and that goes for the rest of you too. GET INVOLVED!
If nothing else it’s a big ‘FUCK YOU’ to all the big publishers who rush dev teams to finish games and are the root of all evil in the videogame industry to some people. This is a proven games maker with a dream and a shit load of money. He has no-one demanding stuff gets rushed out to make deadlines and nothing but time and money to make the Best Damn Space Sim Ever. You’ll see the BDSSE thing all over the place, it’s their mantra.
Studios all over the world working on the different aspects of the game and making the individual components as hi fidelity and amazing as they can, lots of guys from Hollywood and other brilliant games studios, it’s an exciting new way of making games and it’s inspiring and amazing.
Forty damn million dollars from Internet Spaceship Porn, incredible.
Oh yeah, final edit, only 5925 alpha slots left. Just sayin’.
