It’s electronic downtempo music. IDM is a silly and problematic name in my opinion, as is ‘triphop’.
If you’re getting into Boards of Canada you’re entering a whole new world – listen to music has the right to children and campfire headphase first.
I like: Amon Tobin, Boards of Canada, Bonobo, Coldcut, Autechre, Fila Brazillia, Nightmares on Wax, Aim, Mr Scruff, Blockhead, Lemon Jelly, Quantic, Luke Vibert, and whoever else I’ve missed. My tastes are a bit more sample based and hiphop oriented than usual though.
Ninja Tune and Warp are the labels you want to be looking into. Listen to Aphex Twin as well although I could never get into his music for some reason.
