That’s right. Looking to purchase a new laptop and came across this little beast. Just wanted to ask whether anyone has any experience with said laptop (it has various other names too; same chassis, different name). Done some searching for a bit and the most significant issue seems to be temperatures, which have all been fixed with the use of decent cooling stands.
Also, I need to try to figure out what I should build to get the best bang for my buck from here: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/2845/
Obviously it will be used for playing TF2 (and perhaps a couple other not very graphically intensive games) but also video/photo editing alongside the usual word processing etc. I’m unsure whether it’s worth me just going all out and max’ing out pretty much everything…seems kind of wasteful. I would def. need at least 500GB of HDD space. Whilst I have no set budget, something around the £1000 mark would be ideal. Going over by a hundred quid or so shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Any ideas?
Before anyone asks, I need something very small and portable for uni/work use. Having looked at ultrabooks, I’ve come to the conclusion I can probably squeeze more horsepower out of this little thing than ultrabooks in a similar price range.
On a side note, looking to sell my current laptop if anyone is interested. Will take £700 + shipping for it. – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281133529973
In general it seems recommended to resist maxing out the spec and instead buy a new one more frequently(?!), but I’m an idiot and don’t listen to such sound advice.
I’ve had a high end gaming laptop before and definitely wouldn’t spend that much money on one again (£2200!). Proved to be very expensive to repair, limited upgrade options and the value depreciates rapidly.
I ended up cutting my losses and selling it to the manufacturer (Toshiba) for parts because they wanted £800 for a replacement gfx card that was a two year old model?!
I have nothing specific to say about the machine you are looking at. Just a friendly scare story =D
11″ laptop with full size cpu and gpu? how is that even possible? or is it just put in there and throttled down to minimum speed right on boot to prevent catching on fire?
@Admirable – Aye, I see where you’re coming from. As long as it lasts 2+ years I’ll be fine. They appear to be fairly sturdy machines so shouldn’t bump into too many problems (I hope…)
@Animal – lmao. Heat is an issue with these laptops, but nothing that a decent laptop cooler can’t fix ^_^
