144hz monitor and scaling

I got a BenQ XL2411T and it can go up to 144hz.
Whenever I launch a game with a resolution smaller than the native 1920×1080, the picture is just small and surrounded by black bars instead of stretched to the full screen.
But when I run games in 120hz there are no problems.
wat is this
change in the graphics drivers and use lightboost with 120hz and its 100x better than 144 hz
i am pretty sure that monitor deliberately does not stretch to allow you to “practice” for tournaments that may be using a different monitor setup. i may be wrong

I have an AMD card.
Might get one of them NVIDIA ones when I get a new build, though.

Might be true. These BenQs are sponsored by tournaments and such.
I do have another question, though. My current build can’t quite run TF2 smoothly in the native 1920×1080, but I do want to use 144hz. Is there any idea in using 1600×900 or 1680×1050 even though the picture is smaller?
edit: I guess there is no point to using 144hz with the framerates I get right now.

all the scaling options are in video drivers, as tviq already said in 1st post
yea i was wrong. there is a monitor dunno if its this or not but the buttons on the monitor itself allow you to make it 17-19-20-22-24 inch display.

thanks alot for this, had no clue about lightboost and its fucking amazing
do u need to set “-freq 144” in launchoptions for 144hz ingame?

Chris: -freq, -refresh – STOP. USING. IT. The frequency used is, by default, the same as used at the desktop. Don’t screw with it, or if Valve removes the restriction to allow -freq to change frequency outside of range some day, a lot of people around here will end up with broken monitors because they entered the thing without understanding what it does.
lol
it sets refresh rate, not really a rocket science
i think chris got mad at ppl for using it when they dont need it more than people with unusual setups using it to force unusual settings
if your monitor supports 144hz and isnt setting it when you launch game you will need -refresh..

Btw, it will only works with fullHD resolution? In dat programm was only 1920×1080 settings.
it is fckn AMAZING. Thank u TviQ!

The scaling options in CCC do nothing when using 144hz. -freq / -refresh 144 doesn’t change anything either, because I have 144hz selected already.
And this ‘games not stretching’ stuff happens in every game. And even in Windows if I try a smaller resolution with 144hz.
