… and that’s for the second time in a row.
Quite an interesting read, and the EA reaction is even better. I honestly cannot believe how much people buy their games and are still willing to give chunks of money on so many unfinished or generally bad games.
EA reaction:
Many continue to claim the Always-On function in SimCity is a DRM scheme. It’s not. People still want to argue about it. We can’t be any clearer – it’s not. Period.
Some claim there’s no room for Origin as a competitor to Steam. 45 million registered users are proving that wrong.
Some people think that free-to-play games and micro-transactions are a pox on gaming. Tens of millions more are playing and loving those games.
We’ve seen mailing lists that direct people to vote for EA because they disagree with the choice of the cover athlete on Madden NFL. Yes, really…
In the past year, we have received thousands of emails and postcards protesting against EA for allowing players to create LGBT characters in our games. This week, we’re seeing posts on conservative web sites urging people to protest our LGBT policy by voting EA the Worst Company in America.
This guy is such a joke, jesus christ.
Props to EA for taking the cock up the arse and actually admitting (to an extent) their failures.
Them knowing about their mistakes and then not doing anything about it, or even blaming others is far from admitting imo. The guy is a joke, not a single apology in that text.
“Everything EA and Maxis have said to justify SimCity’s always-on multiplayer functionality reads like a man who got his girlfriend pregnant trying to rationalize his decision to not wear a condom.” -Yahtzee

I’m waiting for them to say something along the lines of ‘hurr durr you don’t like us we won’t like you, but go ahead and keep giving us money’.

What a load of bollocks. All the guy is saying is “ok we missed a few things here and there, it happens, but look what we’ve done right” – he’s just making the point that the award is unjustified. Which it probably is.
It is a sad fact in itself that “worst company in the US” goes to a games developer/studio/whatevertheyare. To throw in a random example; maybe they should have a look at oil companies and the like – I’m sure they do a lot more actual awful things.
huehue my computer game doesn’t work #firstworldproblems

Nobody has a problem, that video game company is “worse” than banks that fuck up economy and oil company that had one of the most biggest oil spills in history?

first of all calm down
second why should it be relative? its the worst company overall, just because its far more common for oil companies to fuck up the environment it doesnt make it any more acceptable

It’s a popularity contest on the internet, of course more people will feel that a shitty video game company has fucked them more. If it was just about the company that did the most harm it wouldn’t be a vote.

heh

Both of those examples you gave are previous winners in the year(s) that they were most relevant. Obviously they are still a big concern, but the criticism of EA’s business practices is more current.
