Why are some mechanical keyboards so much more expensive than each other if the switches are standardized. What is so much better about a £150 mechanical keyboard compared to a £40? Is it just brand?
Not much, if you talk about standard design ones (aka not the black widow for example). There’s some electronics, quality of the circuit board, plastics used in the casing etc. There’s also minor differences in the design, and some use different size keys for certain things.

It’s the brand and the quality of the rest of the board.
A filco will be of higher quality than something like a keycool.
This may not matter, since the keycool is perfectly fine (at least the one I had was) but over time it may show.
Also things like manufacturer support etc can vary greatly.
Simple things like keycaps add to the cost as well.

What do people think/know about the Blackwidow, I really fancy led backlighting O.o
Crap coating on non-standard key caps. What is not to like?

Okie dokie, I found one interesting keyboard, which is the Coolermaster CM Storm Trigger. It has a wrist rest and red led light which are actually better from my opinion than the blue ones in blackwidow. Any opinions about this keyboard?

Are you happy with a non standard layout board?
I’d highly recommend a Race/Pure over that board.
If you want fullsize, then a Ducky Shine would be my recommendation.
Non-standard will mean that you will never be able to change the look.

That your board? Seen it before, very nice dolch isn’t it?
You can make the non standard layout boards look decent, some sets come with the needed modifiers etc, this is one I saw recently:

What if I just couldn’t live without wrist rest?

Yes it’s mine.
Anyway, these are standard (tenkeyless). Standardisation isn’t about key placement its about cap size and shape. Those keys would fit my keyboard without a problem. I could use my caps on those tenkeyless without a hitch.

Man, it’s getting expensive O_O Maybe I’ll just live without fancy led lights and go with the QPad MK-50
Anyone know what’s changed in the new version of ducky shine? Like something other than the fancier backlight possibilities.

It depends what you mean, most of those keys would yet, but the Esc wouldn’t for instance? Nor the right shift.
Filco? What switches? Had a Filco TKL with blues, but now I just have the Poker on the middle row on the left ( the top let and middle right were also mine in that pic)

The escape key is a tab-sized key. The shift key, whichever that one is of that crowed bunch, is a standard bottom row key like alt or control.
Brown with double-shot caps. (just like your escape key ;). I bought the whole set)

So you purely meant using standard sized keys, didn’t quite understand what you meant, I was meaning if you were to buy a standard 87 key set for instance, you wouldn’t have all the correctly sized keys :)
Nice, my current escape key is triple shot I believe :D (it’s a geekhack key from QWERkeys)
The dolch are probably my favourite non blank set :)
