Hi,
I have just moved from France to Ireland (Galway) for my job and before trying any providers, I would like to know if any of the Irish players have some good or bad experiences with an Irish provider ?
A friend has some problems with NTL, eircom is really expensive… I don’t know what to choose ?
Not 100% on galway, but I’m on eircom for 7 years now in Dublin and I’ve had very few problems with them. Ok, there are a bit expensive than the main competitor which is BT, but BT went bankrupt last year or the year before that (and the govt had to bail them out) which made me rethink the idea of a switch. Eircom also had a problem with interleaving a few months back when they were upgrading their lines, where a lot of gamers (ut, tf2, cs) had really bad pings at peak times (where we went from ~40 to ~140), but that solved now. I’m on a 3M line bundled with free calls and stuff
As for options, my mate is on NTL and he’s had no problems whatsoever on it (he switched to NTL from BT after their shenanigans). He’s on an 8M line, ucapped dl and 2GB upload afaik.
BT has been going steady though and I know a few people who have switched to it recently and have had no problems with it. They still have that interleaving problem that eircom had, but you can just call up their customer support and they’ll turn it off for you.
If you want more info mate i would recommend posting at http://www.boards.ie in the broadband section.
I thought they were still into the “beating your wife up just because she’s not in the kitchen” craze. Hi seraph.
(No offense)
An independent report by the irish commission was released recently.
SMART Telecom came out on top.
If they’re not available BT came second and then digiweb came 3rd.
You can find the report here: http://www.epitiro.com/assets/docs/Ireland%20Internet%20Performance%20Index%20Epitiro.pdf
Broadband in Ireland is really hit or miss. I have an Eircom 3Mb connection, and it’s absolutely flawless for me, but I know a few people in Galway who have serious problems with it.
Your best bet is boards.ie tbh http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=259
All you haters can kiss both sides of my white Irish ass! :P
I’m with 20mb NTL, pretty good ping to UK and EU servers (40 -50), plus awesome download speeds, usually get over 1mb at peak times, hitting over 2 at the quiet times.
Gah NTL piss me off. They have connections is places like Crumlin, but none in the city centre.
“Places like Crumlin” lol.
Yeah 20MB NTL here, no problems and good ping to anywhere.
