i’m a bit dumb so bear with me:
why does it matter if a debit card is stolen if the thief has no way of knowing your pin except by brute forcing it?
i’ve not been mugged for my debit card yet but i was thinking of this hypothetical and afaik i can’t see any way of a debit card being used without the pin or an address(i don’t roll with anything that has my address on it)
also inb4 WHYTHEFUCKAREYOUPOSTINGTHISHITONGAMEFORUM, i guess i feel like it and like i said i’m a bit stupid and my google skills have failed me(as limited as they are)
Well if my debit card would get stolen, they could use it all over the internet to pay stuff, since it has everything they need to know on it. In Finland you can also pay stuff without the need to type your pin, just sign the receipt.
don’t need pin to pay for stuff online ^_^
more importantly another question.
why is honeymustard not in pug2? and why are there only 3 admins in pug2?

you do however afaik need a valid billing address. note that i think this is different to delivery address but my understanding of what that means is the address that the card is registered with that determines branch sort code.
Cos I know someone who had their card stolen and somehow went into a bank, without ID, and managed to get £500 out of this account at two different branches.
It appears that the British Banks do not have very good safety.

no such thing as sort codes outside uk, and i dont think you need billing address for online payments outside uk too, usually its just used for invoices
You asked “why does it matter if a debit card is stolen?”, well, “i can’t see any way of a debit card being used without the pin or an address” so who said it even matters being mugged for your card? Add to this that you can call your bank once its stolen and tell them that it was stolen, they’ll hold transactions and track its usage.
Unless you plan on stealing one and want to know a way of using it properly you shouldn’t really be asking that question. :/

also i should have specified, but general advice suggests that you cancel all cards and shit after them being stolen, right? to prevent the thief using the money on said cards? i was just thinking about whether it’s even possible for a thief to use the money on a debit card w/o a pin or a billing address, and thus was curious as to why this advice applies to debit cards too. i consulted google but my skills were insufficient so i posted it here
I can only count 2 usages for the debit card, either you withdraw money from a machine/bank, or buying. If you wanted to withdraw from the bank it’ll ask for your ID which holds the same name on your card (Which I suppose isn’t stolen too, even if it was, there is a picture of you, unless the bank clerk is blind and didn’t check it). If you wanted to buy with it, it’ll require the security code or whatever info that only you have it and not on the card itself. As of my card, it has all info on it including the security code (!), so if its stolen I’ll need to call the bank immediately to hold transactions, unless for the thief to be smart enough beating me to death right after stealing.
IIRC the card itself is not very secure so if your thief was clever he could construct a homemade card reader that could be used to take all your details (which is why that bank account needs to be shut down regardless).
Not sure what you card looks like, but my visa is debit as well; it has 3 numbers called CVV/CVC code.
Let’s imagine a thief tries to buy something on the web using your card.
The only data he needs is a number of your card, your name and expiration date (all available for him), and that cvv code to confirm the deal. In some cases, the deal STILL needs to be secured somehow, either by confirmation by your bank or something. But still, a lot of sites allow the transaction straight after you’ve entered the cvv.
When I was 15 I went shopping in town with a mate who was going to buy some stuff. We stood at the cash point waiting our turn as a couple of ladies in front stood staring at a mini statement.
They turned round and saw us waiting and shuffled off, still debating the contents of the mini-statement.
I looked down at the cashpoint and saw a “Would you like any other service”…my mate egged me on and I clicked yes, cash, £200….took the card, took the money, broke the card in half, dumped it in the bin and went shopping.
Don’t let you be the woman!
Because alot of websites dont use “vertified by visa” or any other security, all i need to do is jam your card details (card no. exp date and security code on the back) and put in some fake address ( i dont know where you think they reference your address from somewhere?) and go buy loads of porn subscriptions or somthing.
And i doubt this is just a “random question” whose card have you pikeyed?

LOL kinda was expecting the “what happens if it gets stolen, because if its okay I can go get one myself” line of thought xDDDD
As for debit cards, my bank usually contacts me if there is any transactions upwards of £200, or if transactions are being charged from largely different places (fucking love HSBC Premier, service is just so awesome its worth the large investment in it). Although it is probably true that porn subscriptions do not usually cost that much (or they may, correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t go around surfing porn prices), regardless of obtaining your PIN transactions can still be done online, assuming the thief gets home faster than you whip out your mobile and dial up the bank.
Safe option: call your bank
Thief option: go get one and sprint home, order that TV you always wanted.
