Hello guys.
I want to upgrate my pc for more higher fps in tf2.
I am thinking to buy a new processor – E8400.
Right now, I have E5200 @ 3,125 x 2.
I would like to know how this proc supports tf2. :)
And your monitor runs at how many hertz?
Less than 85 and it wont matter. If the drops in fps are bothering you, do what I do and have fps_max 67 in your autoexec, then it wont jump around at all :)

I wouldn’t buy a dualcore for a gaming rig in 2011. Your socket also supports C2Q processors. Maybe you can find a Q8400, Q9450, Q9550 or something for a reasonable price.

My fps drops at the center, when there is a 6 on 6 fighting to ~85.
Good enough. Dont waste your money on E8400, if your going to upgrade, upgrade everything, get sandy bridge.

Hmm, how will the quad core processors support tf ? I was heard that they are many times worse then dual cores.

Not really an upgrade, I get dropped to the same fps running 1024×768 on a e6600 clocked at 3.4ghz + GTX260.

FYI i run a i3 530 @ 3,66 ghz and a AMD HD4770 and i can run TF2 full hd with DX9 config with AA and AF en high details and the whole deal on.
Go sandy bridge, they are same price as the old core series.
the new cpu architectures are improving the performance a lot even on same speeds
e8400 @ 3ghz > e6600 @ 3ghz …
not to mention e5xxx which are budget and not high end cpu’s
my chart for intel cpu’s on w7 to have 100fps on mids:
~ 3.5ghz on q6600 is equivalent to e6600
~ 3.1ghz on e8400 is equivalent to q9450
~ 2.4ghz on i5/i3 (doesnt matter what model)
tested on q6600, e8400 and i5 450m, minimum res + maxframes cfg… all at noted clocks had ~160fps on snowies timedemo which gives me ~100fps on 6v6

Which graphics card do you run for tf2? I did a switch from a E6500 to E8500 two years ago and my fps improved a lot. However the problem is that I still have the same old drops due to my old HD2900. You might consider an upgrade improvement there too!
