josku

so can someone suggest me some good tutorials for FL STUDIO?

Dr Icecream

There’s no tutorials really, it’s a feel in general (tempo, the swing and the drum patterns), also learning to work with LFO isn’t that hard once you know what you’re looking for.

If you still need some help, look on youtube for bobskimanic, he’s a friend of mine and we’ve both been producing for quite a while now, he def has some good tutorials up there.

you don’t “compose” dubstep. you generate it (really, your computer does)

Cubase is archaic.
Sonar is Cubase with a better UI & few good plugins.
Fruity Loops is for disabled children & current generation trance producers.
Reason is great for beginners, but can be limiting depending on the sound you’re after.
AbletonLive is the best there is.

Don’t tell porkies, literally no one uses FL in dubstep..

Skream used to (switched to OSX with Logic now afaik, cause Macs are cool), Heny G uses it, and I think Silkie and Quest use it too. They make real quality tunes, no simple bangers. These are the examples I know, I bet there are loads more.

Mike Oldfield is a proponent of FL Studio (not really a CHILD now, is he?)

This cliché hate on FL Studio is so lame and overdone. You see this dumb rehash of unfounded statements in every n00bish software-music-production discussion. People just like to shout unnuanced shit I guess. Most of the people that talk shit about it don’t even produce music themselves. (let me hear what you guys make?)

In the very end though, FL Studio misses some small features and imposes workflow limitations, but they become only apparent when you are really adept at making tunes, and pump shit out every single day. It’s still a great app nonetheless.

Oh that’s funny, so Bach didn’t “compose” his works, but his orchestra generated it? (really, his orchestra’s instruments did)

It’s not the software but how you use it. If you can’t write a tune it doesn’t matter how well it’s produced. If you can, making a switch later on shouldn’t be a problem.

This guy gets it.

Still when it comes down to it Ableton is no harder to use than fl and has none of the problems discussed about it in this thread.

Vst you say?

– Sylenth
– Standard Fruity loops vst’s such as WASP, Sytrus, Traktor, Komplete, Reaper (me gots a DL link if you want), reFX (mostly for mastering), Dimension Pro (this is mainly for decent string samples or basslines though), the oscillator in FL.

As stated before, anything with an LFO section will do, it’s just up to you to make melodies and create variations in the synths (the “edit events” option in FL is a good thing for that)

CamelCrusher is a good distortion plugin indeed. I still like Cyanide as well. Very simple, but free and the grunge that it gives is very good. Then you have more expensive and complex stuff like Izotope Trash.

As for instruments, I don’t think you need the overcomplexity of synths like Massive. People usually recommend it because it has good presets, but presets = lose. There are loads of good synths out there, just look on kvr-vst.com for free ones. You dont have to pirate EVERYTHING to go and make tunes (in fact, you dont have to pirate at all, you coud use Jeskola Buzz as a DAW and use freeware plugins). I’ve made tunes entirely with 3xOSC (the basic fruity subtractive sine/square/saw/pulse generator)

If you really feel like a paid VSTi gives you more power, try Circle. It’s quite versatile but reaaaally easy to learn. It does everything. FM synth, modularity, built in effects, etc.

[edit]Also, making a squarewave with LFO on the lowpass (hicut) filter is not dubstep, contrary to popular belief[/edit]

give the orchestra a sheet of notes. do the instruments play the notes back automatically? no.

give fruitloops a set of notes/beats/untz untz/noise. all done!

people who call themselves producers or w/e because they manage to hit random buttons in FL dont compose music. theyre overgrown kids playing around in a sandbox.

It’s easy mode, you can put any drum pattern on it and claim it’s that genre :P

I love how every thread on this site gets trolled by someone, not always the same person, but we never seem to have one single thread where everyone acts nice.

Either way, I disagree with what you say here. Whenever I record music (which is consisting of guitar, piano, drums and bass guitar) and it feels like it need a synth in it, I don’ tjust go twisting the buttons randomly, you see, each button represents a certain aspect of a sound (shape, speed, pitch, how clear it sounds etc), and to make it sound good, it actually needs some insight. So no randomly pushing any buttons there
