How about this then?
(yes thats a good url)
That’s pretty much as good as you’re going to get without spending heaps of money for no real reason.
i7 2.8GHz Quad Core
12GB DDR3 RAM
2x 64GB SSD’s in RAID 0 (mega fast 128GB drive bassically)
1x 750GB HDD (for just stuff)
Radeon 5870 (best card there is without just buying a really really expensive one for 1337 gamers with rich parents)
Samsung 22″ 120Hz monitor
I’d take a Radeon 6870 instead of the old 5870. It has almost the same performance and is ~100e cheaper, around 230-250 euros.
6870 has better AA and tesselation, but guys, GTX480 is just faster, and (considering his budget) not that overpriced.

Oh right, ye, what this dude says, I didn’t bother to check if they were out yet, although they are not 100 euro’s cheaper, THEY ARE A WHOLE FIVER MORE EXPENSIVE!

umad? £120 more expensive? for an extra 20 or so FPS? I don’t think so.
Loved your old Qosimo btw Admirable, most colourful PC at i40. :D

True but if you spend that extra you’ll still be way under 2000 pounds for the total system. Yes, performance-per-pound is lower, but that’s not the issue here.
If you really want ultimate GPU power out of the box, get the GTX480 ZOTAC Amp! version which is factory overclocked and is one of the rare GTX480 cards with non-reference cooling (except for the cards that come with watercooling setups).
ATI! don’t do it to yourself they steal all your lucky charms

Well it is actually. You can easily spend £2k on a computer. Infact, If you were looking things bordering on enterprise server hardware, you could easily spend £20k on a PC. Thing is, for a home computer that just runs games, you just do not need to spend that kind of money. To put it in business terms, you create solutions for people, not budgets. The only people doing the latter are conmen.

True true. And I have to say, even though the GTX480 is the most powerful single-gpu card out there, it will probably be bested soon, cause it’s been out for quite a while. So yeah, a 6870 or a factory-overclocked custom cooler design 1GB GTX460 (more silent and a lot of times similar performance compared to 6870) might be a better choice overall. But if Admirable wants to spend the money, he can, just sayin’ ;)
Oh and get a 1.5TB – 2TB drive in combination with that 2x64GB RAID setup. It’s the best GB per pound value.

Oh and I meant to say I’d like a netbook too! :D
I got a netbook (SAMSUNG N130) today for £170 from the Argos Ebay outlet, basically ex-stock/damaged packaging netbooks for cheap. Got W7 Basic installed on it. Nice little pc imo.

“With their assistance, XL2410T can truly be a professional LED gaming monitor – with a set of Gaming Display Modes which includes the FPS mode (First Person Shooting), co-developed by two legendary Counter-Strike players – Emil “HeatoN” Christensen and Abdisamad “SpawN” Mohamed.”

Have you only been here for about 5 minutes? Admirable goes to most LANs in his birthday suit.
Thanks for all the advice mates!
You’ve given me a good starting point in my investigations.
Can anyone estimate what the laptop might fetch as scrap/spare parts? :D
