k so, i recorded some stuff with tga’s and I was trying to compress it to an avi file.
Xvid MP4 its not so HD, Lagarith lags and screws the entire videos. I cant seem to open Xvid mp4 encoded files in sony vegas though, cuz it doenst recognize the video file, only the audio file. help? :/
im just choosing “Uncompressed RGB/YCbCr” and render it in vegas
mp4 on vegas

What I’m personally doing is recording with PLDX’s recording tool as TGA’s with a seperated wav file. in virtual dub in load the TGAs and at the audio section i add the relevant audio file
compressing with Lagarith, but another thing i’m doing which is working perfect for me, is going to Video –> Frame rate –> and select the option which says that the audio duration and video duration should match.
You may notice that if you record at 120 FPS ingame, after you click that option you’ll get some FPS which is nearly 120, like 118 etc..
just saving VID, and starting to work on it at sony vegas.
working pretty good for me, no complains.. try that out and goodluck =]

trying that now mate! thanks
EDIT: Bit sloppy with framerate 30, but i’ll re-record with 120 framerate and try again.
EDIT2: Nivzeh, trying that way now, thanks aswell :3

What I (and a few other editors aswell) do is:
TF2 (host_framerate 240, so 240fps)
VirtualDub (Framerate matched with audio, so 240-ish fps, lagarith as compression)
After Effects (30 or 60fps project, editing the lagarith files)
Export from AE in Lagarith
Convert to Quicktime H.264 at 5mbit
All the time using 1280×720.
Editing Format: Lagarith
Final Output: Quicktime in H.264

I cant compress with lagarith in vdub. the file is going to be all fucked up. already tried framerate 30 and 120. :/
tf2 120 fps tga’s -> vdub with huffyuv (loseless, but better then lagarith) @ 120 fps -> vegas for editing -> uncompressed -> mp4 with megui
win

Lagarith is just a slightly (VERY slightly) improved version of huffyuv, the only real difference is the encoder for lagarith supports multicore. Theres honestly no difference. :P

which encoder do you use skyride?
Just the standard lagarith plugin. You just download it, install, and it should be an option under the compression settings in VDub.

xvid, quality 4.
what more can i say
A lot. XVid is an awful awful format made for compressing movies and videos from back when broadband and torrents were just starting to become popular. Its not an editing format, its a final distribution format (and a very bad one at that).
Oh also, The only reason I use 240fps instead of 120 is that it looks A LOT smoother when you do slowmo’s, but tbh, its just me being pedantic and doesn’t matter a huge amount.
Lagarith (or huffyuv if you like, but theres really no point) for editing
H.264 for final distribution (so MP4 or Quicktime, just personal preference)
i compile tgas to a lagarith avi, edit in vegas, export an uncompressed avi and encode in x264 with megui
here are some great tutorials
