Hi,
I’m trying my best to edit a little movie at the moment and would like to have some advice and criticism for the colors and stuff. I know the quality is not the best but please think about youtube-quality :P
Any tips and tricks would be nice – it’s the first time I’m working with vegas and I feel like a little boy in a big world ,because everything is so new to me.
Thanks Phis
would be cool to render in best at wmv with 1280×720 resolution, i heard mp4 is okai but never tried
colors are nice .. you can increase the saturation a little tiny bit through video fx
I’ve been playing around with settings for youtube for a while I’ve found the ones I think look best are;
1280×720 (for HD)
Wmv filetype
Squarepixel 1.0
Bitrate 5000+
I’m not saying these are right but these are mostly what I use :p
Gives the best quality that I’ve found so far
if you are doing your project in Sony Vegas then look on that:

When you’ll be ready for the rendering than your rendering settings should be like that:

render only video!
than render audio with that settings:
Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio
And than in vdub just compile video and audio streams together, and youll get quality like this one – http://etf2l.org/forum/movie/topic-8605/?recent=143341
I don’t know anything about Vegas, but I can say a 1pass CBR encode is probably the worst way to encode a movie =/

all in all that’s not the main reason while you upload it on youtube, and there your vid will be much worser, than original, and there will be no difference between VBR, or CBR, and number of passes :/
I have to disagree. YouTube can only work with what you upload.
Your most intricate detailed scenes will be limited by a 1pass CBR.
If you really, really want uber, UBER, UBER quality for YouTube, an insanely low Constant Quantizer pass will be best. Just don’t expect it to be under 2GB file limit =D

hmmmmmm i’ve understood right, i should set bitrate on about 2000 kbit then and set number of passes >2 ?
The files I upload to youtune are 6mbps VBR 2 pass quicktime in H.264 @ 1280×720.
Tbh, thats massive overkill for only a minor difference in quality, but I’m happy to wait longer for the upload for that minor quality increase.
WMV is quite possibly the most awful file format ever created.

CQ uses neither bitrate or multipasses. CQ uses a set size quantize ‘grid’ to encode the information. Using a smaller ‘grid’ keeps the finer details intact.
