Extremely Efficient Way of Recording Clips

Now, everyone knows that recording clips from games is a very annoying part of putting together a frag video. To make it easier for myself, what I normally do is type 1 into team chat whenever I get something worth putting in a frag video. This allows me to watch through my demo at demo_timescale 12 (12x regular speed), then when I see the 1 I pause it, go back to the tick it begins at, execute my recording config and then record the clip.
However, this is still annoying to do, sometimes I miss the 1, sometimes I have a delayed reaction and have to go back a few times to get to the start of the clip.
I was thinking today, and I have found a different way of doing it. I created a bind to my Insert key which was this:
bind ins “say_team 1; demo_pause”
It bound insert to say to my team 1 and then pause the demo for me. This has no effect in game apart from saying 1 to my team, but when watching back, it will pause the demo as soon as it is told to.
I haven’t yet tested it in a proper game or pickup, but what I assume it will allow me to do is to watch demos through on demo_timescale 20 or even higher, as I don’t need to worry about pausing it.
Hope this will help some of you out there :D
Can’t you just remember the score? Or the timeleft?
Of course you could. But this way you could go through a full map in 5 seconds and it’d stop you exactly at the end of your clip. It’s just faster and more simple in my opinion, plus there’s no memory involved :D
you shouldn’t be worrying about good footage during a game, and stopping whatever you’re doing to save a point for your next frag movie. yes it’s a good idea, but you should concentrate on the game and winning it, not making your life easier making frag movies
Yeah, I understand you. But still I always just think that I did something awesome, and pressing one button takes less focus than remembering the timeleft or score. It’s probably not that great an idea overall to focus on good clips, but I barely find it a distraction tbh. I play, if something good happens, I’ll press Insert as soon as I’m out of danger, and I’m ready to keep playing.
Thanks for sharing
Made myself a key without the teamsay part :) Thanks for the idea!
This is a good idea imo. Like num said, you should be focusing on winning the game, but naturally, when i do something spectacular (not regular….) all i can think about is putting it into a clip later :P this would make my life easier, thats for sure.
