Half of this is good advice, half of this is terrible advice. So basically you will be no better off than when you started for reading this.

Not really sure which parts (apart from the music selection bit) are bad advice here. He basically says:

1. Plan your music
2. Develop a theme
3. Colours and originality
4. Use 3D if your good
5. Use proper camera techniques to get good atmospheric angles
6. Take your time

All of this seems like good advice to me, other than the 1 min music changes (which if done well I actually like) what else is bad here?

Since when is freezer above fragclipthread? The editing there is as retarded and distracting as it is in his movies. The only difference seems to be the length.

Actually, there’s a step before all of those, that will define everything coming after:
Why are you making your movie, and what do you want to achieve?

Seems it’s such an obvious question, nobody remembers to ask it.

In my opinion, mostly whats missing is the creative spark. I know its hard to always bring new “shit” to the table, but try, instead of reworking the same effects and flashy colours which have been used for so many movies before. to me it seems that some people lack the artistic instinct, or “the creative spark” and thus their movie will feel empty, even if it looks good, it just has to have a purpose.

So, yeah, what Torden said.. as always

I agree with what you’re saying, but sometimes you just want to show great frags. Then some history or creative sparkle should not be put in the way to shade some amazing footage. But games are different, and a CSS movie just showing good frags without much edit would be horrible in my opinion. TF2 then, a movie or clip with great frags is what i prefer( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddPDDeqmpsI ) But of course movies and clips like that also has a speciel touch from the editer.

Obviously what we need is more overlays on our movies! Nothing says creativity more than a good overlay!
