Badlands commentary

One thing which I think has been missing from this scene are player commentaries which provide an insight into what that player is thinking while watching what he does. I think Jaeger might have done some things like this but we could always do with more. So that is what I’ve done.
These are intended for new players just starting or getting used to competitive TF2 and so the first one is from a low- mix which I was invited to play in. This isn’t the usual standard of play I or most people reading this will be used to so there will be lots of mistakes by either team. Having said that it still gives an insight into how I was able to take advantage of the opponents bad play. This paragraph is mainly just an inb4 elitist comments.
What I have done is recorded some of the moments from the commentary and put them onto youtube for you guys to watch now. If you like these small clips then you can download the .rar file which has the .dem tf2 demo and the full .mp3 audio commentary in.
The first clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4HeWQXbwmA
The second clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDBgqHmHVPM
The .rar file: http://www.mediafire.com/?sfbyxbdagjdt3k8
Hopefully this helps some players and inspires other people to upload some of their own commentaries, enjoy :)

Not all free are they? Although granted at a much higher level of play and quality. Anyway it’s always good to have more resources imo :)
It’s decent what you’re doing jg. I’m sure everyone can appreciate that. As you said, MGE is not all free and it’s better to have more resources than few. Perhaps you could look to do some more videos (aimed with beginners in mind) but where play other classes.
This community needs more support for people wanting to pick up competitive TF2. I think what you’re doing is entirely worthwhile.
Hey, I wish – I get!
Thanks jg!
The problem with “commentary” is that you can make up alot of bullshit if you don’t rememeber or know what was called. Better to include mumble comms, pause both the video and that, and then give your comments to explain why you made each move.
Maybe.

Doesn’t make the guess any worse than of someone who watches the demo with no commentary. Just because the advice/commentary isn’t based on what actually happened doesn’t mean the insight isn’t valuable.

“scout’s chasing you compton – because i’ve had the call that the scout is chasing me, i know i can’t carry on towards the point as i’ll leave the medic, so i have to deal with him first”
“i know a scout is chasing me, so i’ll turn just turn around and fire a rocket at him, before i continue on towards the point”
2 different ways of broadcasting your thought process, not that this is what happened in the above video – i’m just trying to get my point accross in an extreme way. I understand that the video is mainly insight, but don’t you think recording mumble comms would improve the credability of jg’s video? :)

It probably would. But what I’m looking for in a tutorial is value, not credibility. If the player is giving me good advice, I don’t care what actually happened in the game.

When I play in games, especially at a lower level I do the main calling so with regards to that I know what was called for the team to do. With regards to the individual calls about the other teams positioning etc then there really wasn’t much to work with due to it being a low level game. This means all my judgements are made from what I can see, the scoreboard and sound.
I do agree however that ideally mumble comms would make it perhaps even better, but in this case they aren’t neccessary. Maybe if I went back to playing some higher level of games then it may be more neccessary. Cheers for the feedback anyway, if anyone has downloaded the full thing then any thoughts would be appreciated :)
