When I try and RAM preview something in vegas, I select about 5 seconds of video, and it just does like half a second and stops.
WHY?!

Dunno, I never use RAM preview, I just lower the quality and do a normal preview.

Also why do you (morf) choose to do the majority of your editing in after effects? I’ve started working with both so I understand the advantages ae has over vegas, but for compiling and syncing clips vegas just seems so much more effective.
I really don’t have a good answer for this question, I learned After Effects first and haven’t really put down the effort in learning Sony Vegas at all. So my choice is probably influenced by that :)

Do any of you video guys own genuine licenses for the software you use? :P
As I am a student of a school that is high-profiled in media and design, we get huge discounts on Adobe products. And as I thought the price was more reasonable, I bought a genuine license yes.

Yep can confirm you get desync if you record from PLDX with 960 fps. On that topic, do you know what the highest fps you can record from the pldx and not get desync?
Selecting this setting in VDUB http://www.engon.de/audio/vhs/virtualdupmpeg%20video%20frame.png synchronises audio with video, but the output fps will be like 977.668, instead of 960, which isn’t good for resampling and it affects final video smoothness.

Ah :) I don’t have access to the project file for the compLexity movie, but I can take a look and see what I can find the next time I can.
Would be good :)
Dumb question, but is there somewhere I can find all your videos in one place?

Rubbish. If you’re using frame blending (which if you’re not and recording at 960fps for any reason other than slow mo I am literally banging my head my keyboard in how mind bendingly pointless that is) then the input FPS has no effect on the final output other than a higher FPS meaning the final output will have a smoother more realistic blur effect.

I know this was aimed at morf but I’ll jump in. After Effects has vastly more flexibility than Vegas. Its not that the actual method for syncing is hugely more complicated, its just that its completely different and takes a bit of time to get your head around. Although in terms of effects in general, the two aren’t even comparable. They’re completely different types of software and After Effects is just light years beyond Vegas in that regard.
After Effects is a compositor
Vegas is mid-end general video production software.
Ideally (and this is how Adobe designed the CS suite), you’d do the effects in AE, particularly complex art work in photoshop/illustrator and the final editing in Premiere Pro.
Gloves for hands and socks for feet really.

At 0:32 to 0:36 how did the editor exactly do that? Did he used another POV ?
