It’s almost a year since I started working on a new version of PLDX. As there were significant changes we wanted to make, and the websites platform had outgrown its capacity some time ago already, we started again from scratch. The rebuild of every aspect of the website took longer than expected, and there are still a lot of features under construction, which we will hopefully have live in the upcoming weeks and months.
The most significant changes that should be apparant to users is the speed of the website as well as the fact that everyone can submit movies now! Although we still only permit gaming related movies, you can upload your short clips and other gaming videos which necessarily wouldn’t fit a real “movie” category, but still are enjoyable to watch.
Below is a list of the main changes:
– Every movie that is uploaded is now automatically approved, so anyone can upload a movie on PldX and it won’t be “declined”. However this does not mean that “shit” movies are featured, only good movies that are uploaded will be flagged as featured movies. This means that nothing has really changed, you will still see the good movies and not the bad ones.
– New site design and logo
– Everyone can edit movie details, so you can fill in any missing details for a movie such as song names (just like Wikipedia).
– The maximum file size for a movie is now 1000mb.
– The site now has an HTML5 video player and a fallback flash player (html5 players work better, they don’t use as much of your CPU as a flash player does, so this is good news for people with slow computers).
– The download section now offers a wider selection of download qualities, you can download the original file (best quality), HD file or SD file for the movie.
– Screenshots are noticeably better quality because they are taken from the original movie files and not the stream.
– Commenting system has been reworked and improved, for instance you can reply directly to comments, sort comments and rate comments.
– Embedding options will be available soon.
– The discussion forum has been improved.
If you experience any problems or have suggestions, please post them in the bug report forum :)
